Rheem 41v850 leaking at bolt on top

My Rheem 41v850 tank is leaking at the bolt on the top. Can it be fixed and if so, how do I turn everything off and drain it to fix it. I bought a long silver rod with the same bolt attached to it which they told me at Home Depot should fix it.

I have two of these 50 gallon tanks. They look to be in good shape, however one of them is leaking and making puddles on the floor. It doesn't seem that the water is leaking very fast, but enough to create a mess. I need to know how to shut everything off and get this long silver rod replaced inside to see if that works.

Just turn off the gas valve for pilot light, turn off cold water to water tank. drain system. when refilling open cold water to fill tank, wait at least a 1/2 hour to 45 minutes then relight water heater. you should be fine!

SOURCE: Pilot lighting

1) Open the door on the bottom of the tank to show the burner. 2) Turn the valve to "pilot" and depress. 3) Light the match, (best if you have a candle/grill lighter), and follow the skinny copper tube from the valve to the burner inside (this is called the thermocoupler). At the end of it, you will see the pilot. 4) Once pilot is lit, keep valve depressed for a minute (this warms the thermocoupler, thus sending a signal to the valve saying the pilot is lit). 5) Let go of the pilot button (usually red). 6) If pilot stays on, put the door(s) back on and turn the valve to "on". You will hear/see the gas ignite when complete. Good luck!

If water is leaking from a pipe. then replace or repair the pipe or fitting. If the leak is coming from the unit itself, then replace the unit. Hope this helps.

Check the relief valve, drain and element's,water lines to make sure that they are not the source of the leak. If the tank is leaking you may be able to fix it for now.

The tank depending on condition of the tank if it is pretty sound. Clean up the area of the hole with sand paper. Go to any hardware store and get a JB Weld two part kit. JB Weld will fix almost anything . You can go to www.jbweldit.com for more information about this product. I wish you well and hope this will fix it for you.

SOURCE: I have a Rheem 40 gal. tank that is leaking water

A leaking water heater cannot be repaired, assuming it's the tank leaking and not nearby water pipe.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Water-heater-leaking.html

First thing is to protect your property from catastrophic tank failure where tank ruptures and water runs until it is shut off:
Tanks are under pressure when they are hot.
Close cold water shut-off located above tank.
Turn control knob to 'pilot' so pilot is lit but burner will not turn on.
Open hot side on tub for few moments to relieve tank pressure.

Now your property is safe.
You need a new water heater.
In mean time, gas water heater makes 41 gallons hot water per hour.
Shower used 5-9 gallons hot water.
Bath uses 10-15 gallons hot water.
You can turn on water heater for short stretches and limp by until you get a new heater.

I have a Rheem B33325 hot water tank, it is leaking from the pvc pipe that runs down the side of the tank. Help!

Sounds like TP valve is leaking:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Leaking-water-heater.html
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-replace-TP-valve.html

Do not cap off TP valve.
Raise lever and gently lower back down to see if TP will turn off
Replace TP valve.

If problem persists, re-post question with specifics about your tank: such as electric, or gas, and if unit has a blower on top, and if gas control valve is electronic or has a dial.
