I cannot get my computer to boot. It just goes to a black screen after the acer logo and then the Microsoft loading screen comes up and then goes back to the black screen and that's it. I tried system...

This is a hard drive issue, remove hardware and reseat it back into place, sometimes this will work and run fine. But it is more than likely your hard drive will need to be replaced.

Dell computor message on a black screen windows root \system 32\hal.dill what do I do

Use the Bootcfg utility in the Recovery Console to correct the Boot.ini file:
  1. Use the Windows XP CD-ROM to start your computer.
  2. When you receive the message to press R to repair Windows by using the Recovery Console, press the R key.
  3. Select the Windows installation that you want, and then type the administrator password when prompted.
  4. Type bootcfg /rebuild, and then press ENTER.
  5. When the Windows installation is located, the following instructions are displayed: Add installation to boot list? (Yes/No/All)
[Type Y in response to this message.]

    Enter Load Identifier:
[This is the name of the operating system. Type Windows XP Professional or Windows XP Home Edition.]

    Enter OS Load options:
[Leave this field blank, and then press ENTER]. After you perform the preceding steps, restart the computer, and then select the first item on the boot menu. This should allow Windows XP to start normally.

After Windows XP has successfully loaded, the Boot.ini can be modified to remove the incorrect entry.

Will not boot

If you dont have the option to run:
"Windows XP Recovery Console"
You probably have to install windows on a second PHYSICAL drive, Disconnect the failing one first!
Reconnect the failing drive in slave mode.
1. Start/Run "cmd.exe"
2. execute "chkdsk /F /R /X D:"
3. Shutdown
4. Swap drives.
5. Start system (while praying :) )

Windows xp will not install

If you don't see the message on start up "Press any key to boot from cd" Then you need to change the boot order.

Start the PC and hit delete a number of times. This will take you into the bios screen. (Set up screen)

You will have a tab called "Boot Priority" or "Boot order". Make sure that CD/DVD drive has 1st priority. Save & exit & your done. Upon restart if you have a disc in the drive you will get the option to press any key to boot from CD/DVD. By default, most motherboards are set to boot from floppy & then Hard drive so in most cases you will need to enter setup & change the boot order.

Don't forget to rate me.

Win XP Home no longer works, won't boot from cd/or hd

You have a virus most likely. You will need to boot with an antivirus cd & let it scan & repair the virus damage. After this is done you should have control of your system again. Hope this helps.

Windows does not boot

This sounds like a reformating job required here. You need your Windows CDROM and it is important that it is your own and not regitered to your friend outwise you aere going to have the same problem later when you are asked to validate Windows.

Boot your PC, Open the DVD/CD player draw and put the Windows disk in, switch off your PC. Reboot your PC and press Del to go into setup, in setup press the down arrow once and press enter, on this page halfway down or there about you will see First Boot -------Second Boot---Its the first boot one you want , set it to CDROM by pressing + touch nothing else, now press F10 then press enter. Your PC should now be Booting to CD.
It will run on to a point where you have to choose a partion to format Choose C or 1.
After that it wont need you attention for quite a while, it will automatically start installing Windows files upto the point where it needs the Product Key, after that you will need to configure the keyboard settings then the rest the PC does. Good luck.

Windows xp home edition computer will not start

If the system cannot start on safe mode probably your operating system has gone bad, to check your hard disk you can go use your windows xp disk, to boot from it press f12 choose cd rom keep on tapping enter and dont mind the message that you need to press any key to boot from cd, and then when you are on the welcome to setup page press r for recovery console, once you are there try to type in chkdsk /p and after type in fixboot and press y, and restart your system, if that wont work then your hard drive is bad.
