RS2556SH Side by Side - Icemaker not filling; fill tube not iced over!?

Above model stopped making ice after return from vacation...house water shut off during vacation. Water dispenser works fine. Drained approx 2gal via water dispenser with no "air lock" or sputtering noted. Ran test cycle three times without water filling ice tray...no motor sound noted. Fill tube doesn't appear to be iced over. Any thoughts before calling a repairman?

Press the reset button (black) on the bottom of the icemaker, the system will go through a cycle, and water will pour into the tray.

This is common when water supply has been turned off and ice maker is allowed to cycle. With little or no water pressure to the ice maker line, water can weep slowly down the ice maker fill tube, and block it with ice. Easiest fix is to take a hair dryer to the fill tube / manifold on the ice maker until the ice blockage is completely melted. Avoid problems in the future by lifting the bail on your icemaker to prevent it from trying to make ice when your water is shut off to your house.

Is the freezer section below 17 degrees F? Did the ice maker get switched off by accident? Does the ice maker solenoid valve "click" when trying to fill with water?

there is a double valve at the back bottom lhs. check continuity of both valve coils but doubtfull this is the problem. the fault may be that the filling tube is frozen. try looking in this area

SOURCE: Samsung Side by Side RS2544SL Freezer will not fill tray with water

Your problem may be in the water supply. Where the water connects to the back of the unit there is an electric valve, not a pump. The electric valve inlet orifice may be restricted, Shut off water supply and clean or replace the electric solenoid valve.

Don't buy another Samsung reffigerator. I won't. I and I will always tell everyone I know the same.

I paid over 1200.000 for my refrigerator in Nov 2006. It has never worked correctly. They have replaced everything on the back three times and it is still not working correctly. Since then the refrigator part is not cooling. Today is Sept 10 2008 and I am going to purchase a new refrigerator. It will never be Samsung again.

Ice maker quit water line works intermittingly

icemaker quite? hire a new icemaker. industry joke sorry.
First things first, is it cooling ok? if yes then proceed.
im assuming it stopped making ice altogether, and not a matter of making ice but not dispensing.

If your ice bucket is located in the door itself, you have an electric eye icemaker system, which electronically determines if the bucket is full or not. this electric eye system, located on both side walls of freezer, consist of a transmitter board and a receiver board. you could have a problem with these boards, the icemaker itself, a bad water valve, or depending on the model year, a icemaker fill line that can get clogged with ice, but due to a faulty design, a fill tube heater must be installed.

if your bucket is not in the door, but located directly beneath the icemaker, then disregard the electric eye system info and the fill tube heater info as well.

Water doesn't enter ice maker tray

You probaby just have an air lock somewhere. Trace the tube to where it taps into the water pipe. Remove the hose and blow thru it.

Ice maker stopped working

The laser , is supposed to blink . This laser , tells the icemaker to stop making ice , when the bin is full . Pour about 2/3 cup of water into the icemaker . If it doesn't dump the cubes into the bin , the icemaker is bad . Or , if there is ice in the bin , which hasn't dumped , the icemaker is bad . If the icemaker dumps the ice ( from water pour ) , then look above the fill cup , and see if the black fill tube is frozen . If so , then replace the water valve and turn the freezer temp down slightly . It will take several days for this fill line inside freezer to thaw . If icemaker dumps , and black tube NOT frozen , replace the water valve . The valve , is where the wall water line connects to on the refrig .

Icemaker stuck in 'vacation mode'

Feel inside the ice slots are there any old cubes that have evaporated in time? Take the ice maker out and clean it up and place it back inside to see if it will fill with fresh water. Take a hair dryer and melt the old ice inside the slots and see if it will try to fill. I will wait for a response from you.

Leaking water on floor only happens when making ice

I wonder if you just notice the noise now because the leak has you more aware? First things first. Lift up the arm on the ice maker (a few hours prior to attempting service) to stop it's operation. You need to roll the unit forward to give you access to the back. You'll see a plastic tube that runs from the bottom compartment (water valve) to the ice maker fill tube. Lower the arm of the ice maker and observe the plastic tube for the location of the leak. The most likely spot would be at the top. A hose clamp can be put on the fill tube after making sure the plastic supply tube is completely inserted into the fill tube. The fill tube is the piece that goes through the rear bulkhead and delivers the water to the icemaker. It may be neccessary to remove the icemaker to thaw out the fill tube using a hair dryer.
