This sounds like you have a high limit switch that has tripped. Look on the unit for something that looks like a red button about 1/8" in dia. You may have to remove the cover if the button is not present this unit may have a snap type disc high limit, it be a flat disc around the dia. of a quarter with a small disc on top of it. you can usually remove these by taking off the two attachment screws. There will be a temp range on the disc ring this is what you will need to size a replacement.
Hope this helps you.
SOURCE: Can't open the lid on a Bravetti ep-85 deep fryer
Exterior Dial Raises & Lowers Basket while sealed lid is closed. 30 minute safety timer shuts off power and sounds alarm. Try plugging unit in and raise with exterior dial. I saw this item on ebay with instructions how to open and close check it out
SOURCE: I have lost the power cord and cannot find a source for replaceme
This product was manufactured in China for Euro-Pro and your power cord is available for that model. Just go to the following website: http://www.euro-pro.com/europro/default.aspx. Type in your model number in the parts search on the left side of the page. Your power cord is available for $9.95 plus s/h. I hope this information was satisfactory and please visit fixya.com again.

i called 1800-798-7398 mine is the 5liter fryer, and he needed the model number and date number on the back of the unit *difficult to see/ black plastic, but once I told him what this info was, service tech advised me to push a reset. It looks like a hole where a screw would be .. but I did as he suggested took a pen, pushed it in the hole * i could see no screw in the hole.. and when I plugged it in, turned it on, it started to heat up right away! Hope this is helpful for you! Call the number, Mine was a gift too, I had no receipt. He also wanted to know where it may have been purchased. I knew mine was from canadian tire. All is good. Call the number with model, and age date on hand.. and i am sure they will help you out too. They gave me an account number for refrence if i have any further questions/probs.
