Kenmore Upright 13 cu.ft freezer- uneven freezing

This freezer is at least 15yr old but has worked like a charm until now. It seems that the temperature at various spots in the freezer vary. One area freezes well while another shelf only partially freezes items. Is there more than one fan on these units and is there supposed to be air flow at the bottom equal to the air flowing (blowing) from the top? We just wondered if it was an air circulation problem.

No it sound like there is a problem with the seal system where the freon is kept this model does not have a fan because is the shelves get frosted so there is a leak or restriction so try calling a tech but i would just buy a new if i was you since to fix will cost about the same

Loud clanging noise from Kenmore upright freezer

Check the condenser fan (outside at the rear) and check the coil isn't baking hot. Electronics or board wouldn't cause your symptoms. Check the simple things first!

Kenmore upright freezer only 3 years old running ,no clicking noise, no ice build up but won't completely freeze although set to 7 (lowest temp)

check door seals, also check vent direction, a dial or lever in fridge, it adjust how much air goes to fridge and freezer

Won't freeze

Is the compressor running the whole time? If so may have a problem with a refridgerant leak....check the compressor in the rear of unit, feel if its hot....may be as simple as a relay.

HI I HAVE AN OLD 13 CU. FT KENMORE UPRIGHT FREEZER. AFTER I DEFROSTED IT YESTERDAY AND AFTER IT HAD BEEN PLUGGED IN FOR ABOUT 6 HRS I NOTICED THAT THE SIDES OF THE FREEZER FELT VERY HOT . IS THIS NORMAL ?...

It had to run longer than normal to cool down the freezer again. The heat from the compressor running is what you feel.

I would not worry about it unless it is still hot after 24 hours. Then there is another problem.

Problem with upright freezer not freezing

It sounds like the unit is low on freon or the compressor is going bad. You have several other components that could be affecting this as well. Make sure the coils are free from dust and clean underneath. This is a bit premature for you to have problems now, especially since it is a Sears product.

Freezer Not Working

The most likely answer is a slow freon leak assuming it was getting to the right temperature before you went on vacation.

Not Freezing, but cold

The thermostat should be a close circuit when requesting cold temps. or when asking the compressor to come on. The exterior surface on some freezers warm when asking for cold inside. Yours has a condenser coil on the back and that should warm when cooling. If compressor is runningit should be wrm if no freon has leaked from freezer somewhere.
The defrost timer should rotate clockwise during the day and give approx. 3 defrost daily or about every 8 hours. Until the thermostat is resolved and asks for a closed circuit the compressor will not come on. Unplug freezer from outlet, remove thermostat wires, then turn the thermostat to its coldest setting and check again. If no closed circuit the thermostat will need replaced first. Hope this has helped you, Sea Breeze
