SOURCE: do you have to take the entire side cover off of

Yes you do have to take not one, but both sides off: First take off left and right pedals, a 14mm or 9 l16 end wrench will do the job. Then you will find specific holes where the screws that hold the side panels are I think they are # 15 or 20 torque ( star confiuration). This will expose the frame blow all the debris out. Last ,but not least you will locate the battery behind and below the alernator two phillips heads screw hold the 6v @ 2.5ah battery in place, then replace the the battery, and reassemble the unit. This sholud not take more than 30 min to do.

If the battery continues to fail, I would check the alternator brushes and see if they need to be replaced. Chances are they are worn and the battery is not being recharged sufficiently.

Recumbent bike works best for elderly people with back and hip problems because of the relaxed position and the angle that put's less pressure on those areas. Upright exercise bike works on more areas than the recumbent bikes including the lower abdominal muscles.

Lifefitness 9500hr recumbant exercise bike dead

This unit takes a special 6 volt battery. The battery is in one of two places. First place to look is under the unit. If you lay the bike over on its side there is an opening in the covers. If the battery is not there then you will need to take one of the side covers off. When you get the side off you cannot miss it. The battery is black with three cylinders. You can get the battery from sportsmith.net.
