Sony vx2100...blue playback screen

After multiple camcorder notification of dirty head over a couple of months. Throwing away old cleaner tapes and purchasing a new head cleaner tape...Still having gray bars on video playback, I tried cleaning the head with a cotton swab and "fluid" from a liquid head cleaner, which came with the vx2100 at purchase. After cleaning the head with the cotton swab and fluid...letting it dry...the camcorder only gives a blue screen on play back. It does not record video either. Used a new tape and it would not playback only blue screen in both vx2100 and another miniDV camcorder.

Any suggestions?

If you have used a dry cleaning tape repeatedly, you have to understand how that type of cleaning tape works. Dry cleaners are often called "burnishers" and they work by polishing the tiny tips of the video head and removing small amounts of material to open the microscopic gap that is in the head. That gap is necessary to read the magnetic information off the tape. When the gap gets filled with oxide from the tape, you get a clogged video head and it doesn't read the information off the tape anymore. By using a dry tape repeatedly, you have likely polished the tips down till they are completely worn out. When the microscopic gap is polished past a certain point, it will widen and no longer read the information. The gap is precision machined because a certain sized gap is needed to read the information. too much either way (too wide or too narrow) and it ceases to work. Bottom line, you'll need the drum, which is the cylinder that spins with the tiny tips attached, replaced. Not a job for a consumer, you'l;l need a tech to do if for you. Sorry.

this is very, very likely to happen. Mysony 120 camcorder used to work great for years, but after leaving it with a tape loaded for a year in the drawers the oxide most likely filled the gaps by magnetic field .Switching it on made the head turn filling up the gaps. Resulting in expensive gapfiller and bad reading ...sniff..wonder what the microscope will show :)

In either case the head condition is bad.. pls inspect the tips on the head whether it is not damaged in the cleaning.inspect the drum hours also..

Blue screen on lcd screen

The playback head is probably dirty and cannot show the picture - the screen is blue. Run a blank tape in the tape drive and execute a record all the way through the tape. Then play back a pre-recorded tape to verify it plays back ok.

Bars on tape playback

I would first try testing it out with Sony tapes first. If the problem persist, then it needs to go in for repair.

No playback pics. Blue screen. Can't record.Used x2 since service.

I just made contact with a service tech who seems very competent and who won me over. Have problem with video and audio dropout similiar to dirty heads on a 10 year old DCR-VX2000 but which is a larger problem attributed to worn parts which will need replacement. Do not know how old your unit is, but will share name of person/company if you wish. Only thing that worries me is if you by chance had had yours repaired by them!!! They are a Southern California company.

Blank screen during playback

your camcorder video head is dirty, use a brand new tape and playback for around 5 minutes or more, this will serve as your video head cleaner. you may try at least five times doing this: insert, play, eject, play, eject again. your camcorder has a built in videohead cleaner and activates only during insert, play or rec, and eject mode. If the problem is still there, manual videohead cleaning is needed, use clean bond paper and lighter fluid, damp the bond paper (Size about 1" by 3") with fluid and rub with care the videohead (not the bond paper! The vhead should be the one turning not the paper)by slowly turning the videohead against the paper. Be careful cause this is dangerous that you might brake the videohead permanently. apply only a slight force to the head.

Cannot playback hi8 ccd trv107e pal

Dirty video head! Playback newly opened blank tape for five minutes, after that eject, reinsert, playback then eject again five times, these will serve as your video head cleaner, never use "video head cleaning cassette tape" for it will only damage your camera. Most camera has built in video head cleaner installed inside and activates only when you insert, initial play/rec, and ejects a tape. If the problem is still there you need pro fix then.[:0)

Try to playback the tape and the screen is all blue

your heads motor ( drum ) cable may have have come loose or is dirty - since the cleaning tape made some difference the heads were dirty or almost worn out ( cleaner tape is abrasive ) so now there isn ' t enough signal ; if your date and time display worked only in play ? ( still works for camera record video ) your guides were out of alignment - and the cleaning tape took your guides even further out of alignment ( alignment here starts at $ 50 + shipping )
