Scanner working fine up until today when I needed to scan an important document - scans but image is completely blacked out with white speckles all over. If I lighten image it just goes white, if I darken it just goes completely black. Have, restarted printer, restarted PC, tried to scan using button on printer and also from solution centre, have tried using different settinGs, tried black n white/colour, document/picture settings, nothing works. The diagnostics utility states that I do not have components installed in order to scan under the solution centre bit of the diagnostics, well I have never uninstalled it so can't understand this? So I have now uninstalled the whole HP software that came with the printer and reinstalled using the original CD rom. Same problem persists, I need to scan a prescription for my poorly dog's medication so really need help ASAP :( Have also installed all of the latest updates from HP website. Thanks

ok this sounds like a fun one to solve I like it. so we are gonna try a bunch of stuff here so we can get you going and working again in no time. I hope. haha
ok first off lets make sure that the scanner bed is completely clean of anything just nice clean glass. now if you check and see if the scanner bulb is doing ok how do we do this we are going to do a atest scan and make sure that the bulb is still really bright
by the sounds of it to me the bulb might be on its way out the door if it has had alot of use it can go in a short period of time.
next will be a test to see if the copy function will print the document as it is on the scanner bed, this will tell us if its the software or the hardware if you make a copy and it is still light in color then its hardware make sure your ink is ok as well cause that could pose a problem in the testing of this as well
I will tak a look over the manual and see what I can dig up but if you could try those things so that we can eliminate the following and figure out where to go next.

I reinstalled the printer software and reconnected the wireless connection and it now works well. I read somewhere that registry cleaner software may remove HP files that are required so this time after the registry cleaner scan, I unchecked any HP entry or printer entry and the scanner is still working, however, only from the pc to the printer, I still cannot scan using the buttons on the printer.

I had the same problem and after spending more than 40 hours on the phone with tech support, it was determined that Adobe Photoshop is not compatible with hp solution center. You can open paint and scan with it.

Have you run the check to make sure you have the latest drivers option on the HP website. You can also download the compatible version of the HP Solution Center from the same site.
