I did change myself all these capacitors. It cost me a little over US 38 plus shipping. I placed the order over the phone to Digi-Key Corporation in Thief River Falls, MN. If anyone interested I can send a copy of the invoice with all the capacitors codes and values. Good luck!

Hi Tim
I got the capacitors from Honson (College Home Hardware) 306 College St. W., Toronto, ON, CANADA, [email protected].. They cost between $1 and $5 ea and there were 26 of them to replace.. As I remember, the bill for the capacitors was about $80. If you don't live in Toronto, you might want to Google yourself another source, but he lets you pick them out of his parts bins and you can get them immediately. His prices were also better than anybody around here. You will also need a roll of 2mm copper desoldering wicking tape ($3), a 150 watt soldering gun, a 40 watt soldering iron and a roll of rosin core solder.

Repairing the board is as easy as 123, 26 times :(
1) Make a list of all of the electrolytics on the board. To order them you will need to supply 3 values for each: The voltage (ie 35V), the capacitance (ie: 220uf) and the temperature rating (ie: 105C).
You should be able to read these values off the ones on the board. There is quite a bit of duplication, so even if the existing one is too fried to read, you may be able to match it to another one the same size color and shape.
2) Put a black mark on the top of each capacitor in the board with a black permanent marker so that you will be able to identify which ones are left to replace.
3) Replace the capacitors one at a time by placing the copper desoldering tape abon the connection you wish to desolder and heating it with the soldering gun until the solder on the board is wicked away into the tape. Remove the capacitor noting the - connection and insert the replacement with the - lead in the same hole as the - lead of the other capacitor went into. Solder in the new capacitor with the soldering iron.
4) Repeat step 3 twenty-six times, check your work often and you're done with the board.
5) Now, cut, drill or punch some extra holes in the metal coffin that the power board sits in so that you wont bake it again, install the power board and fire up the TV.

It worked for me first time, just be real careful that you install the capacitors with the correct polarity and that the new solder joints are shiny and dont bridge to other connections.

Good luck and let me know how you make out.

Jim

I need a replacement circuit board for my Astar LTV-3001.. Mine began to smoke... and I don't allow smoking in my house...

The failures on these LCD's are due to defective capacitors in the power supply. There are about 23 capacitors that will need to be replaced to restore the LCD power supply functionality. Check the picture to see where the capacitors are located, the power supply on your LCD is not the same but similar to the one on the picture just the capacitors are place in a different order.
Let me know if you required further assistance.

Power supply repair

I just finished replacing all 25 or so of the electrolytic capacitors on the power supply board of an LTV 2701 AStar TV. When I got done, the tv came back to life and WORKS GREAT. Every last electrolytic was either leaking onto the board or puffed up or both. The main problem is that Astar designed the case so that no air can circulate over the board and the capacitors bake after a couple of years. If you don't do somethig to let the air circulate, you will be replacing them again in 2 more years. The board is pretty sturdy however and its fairly easy to replace them all with some copper desoldering braid and a 125 watt soldering gun. Just be sure to keep the polarities right on the electrolytics and make sure that they are the 105C variety. Good luck and remember to add some fans and cut some extra holes in the cage.

Astar Plasma

I had the same problem... Astar 30" LTV 3001 ....These TV's have a cooling problem that causes premature electrolytic capacitor failure. De-solder and Test all the 2200uF-25v, 3300uF-35v and 1000uF-10v caps in the power supply (center board, back of TV). Use a good LCR meter that will read 3300uF or better, Replace all bad caps with 105c rated caps. If you don't have an LCR meter, replace all the mentioned caps on the PS. If fuse on board is blown, also replace the F9222L regulator IC chip. Mounting a small cooling fan on rear of TV over the PS will help keep your new caps from failing again. This requires holes in the stand bracket and the rear of the TV, power can be supplied from a 14V source near the bottom of the PS board.
