See if you can run the Pre-boot System Assessment (PSA) diagnostics. To run the PSA+ Diagnostics on this system, perform one of the following actions:

1) Hold down the <Fn> key while pressing the power button.

2) Turn on the system, press <F12> at the initial Dell™ logo screen, and select “Diagnostics” from the boot menu.

3) Disconnect the AC power and remove the battery. While holding down the power button, insert the AC connector into the back of the system. The system then starts and the message “Diagnostic boot selected” displays. The system then launches the PSA+ Diagnostics.

According to Dell specs, there is no error code listed that you described, (Flashing Caps LED). Also try reseating the memory modules, (you might want to try this first).

If it's still under warranty, call Dell for repair or use FixYa's Repair Directory to locate a repair shop in your area.

Walterb_8, Thank you. I re-seated my memory modules and was able to re-start. I dropped my notebook the other day and it must have jarred one of the memory modules loose. Thanks again, Dan

Had the same problem with the flashing lock; Tried removing the RAM from below the laptop system unit, same thing then tried to remove the RAM just below the keyboard, the laptop started booting n working now. First take out the cover for power button. Than remove the keyboard, u will find another RAM just there.

Laptop Won't startup Vostro 1500 - 7_13_2013_10_21_14_pm.jpgI I just solved this problem today. Try to change and switch / unplug your ram and your battery , just use normal power supply and the the best is detach your hard drive out and pull out the interposer which attach to the SATA hard disk and put it back. This solutions work for me.

The problem is the video card. The card cost $150 plus labor to install it. There is temporary fix to it .First take out the cover for power button. Than remove the keyboard. Take a hair dryer from home, use high heat blow it into the video card about 5 minutes. The video card is on the right side of the power button. Than put everything back together and restart the laptop. This work for me. Good luck....

My dell vostro 2510 won't power on, when i press power button to turn on the pc , the power light turn on for about 5 sec then it turn off itself,

Try this to see if can give us some codes with it's on board diagnostics. Hold down the function button of your laptop and then the power button while still holding down the Fn/Function button on the left side of the keyboard. See if this gives you either an error message on your screen or, flashing lights above your keyboard. Pay attention, write down what lights where lit up what ones flashed, etc. This is to diagnose if the LCD isn't working. Comment back if you get either the light code or the error code on the screen. IF nothing happens try holding the Fn/Function button on the left side of keyboard and holding the F4 button, see if that makes any lights flash above your keyboard.

Hi i have a vostro 1520 dell laptop there is a problem that some strange 1.my laptop when just full battery is connected to it won't turn on but when i press 20 to 30 sec the turn on key and...

First 2 of your problems are due to the fact that your laptop enters hibernation (or hybrid sleep in windows 7) and windows cannot restore your last saved state. The 3rd problem indicates you have windows problems (bad/not updated drivers, filesystem corruption, application issues). I would suggest you to reinstall windows.

My dell vostro 1500 laptop doesn't boot up the battery and ac power source is fine, what happens is that the only light or noise that comes form it is that the caps lock blue light indicator flashes for...

it sounds like your ac adapter has burned out and won't charge anymore. That's very common... that's why they are so cheap on ebay. Either that or your power plug on the motherboard is cracked or loose at the motherboard (2nd most common) and last bad motherboard (don't assume this unless last resort.)

On boot up a lock symbol with a '9' is lit & nothing else happens

the "9" inside a lock means that your Num Lock button has been pressed. If all you see is the ">" then maybe you are looking at what's called a DOS prompt, and I have no idea why that would display. Try holding the Power Switch for 10 seconds and restart your computer. Hopefully things will be better, and you know where your Num Lock key is.

My Vostro 1500 will not turn on anymore...help please!

Reset/replace the Ram/memory. Sometimes faulty and failing ram can keep a computer from booting up. If you have 2 sticks, take one out and then try to boot, then try with just the other stick. The flashing caps lock icon means a general failure, though it is most commonly associated with the motherboard.

How to fix flashing lock with A in it computer won't boot up vos

The flashing CAPs Lock is an indication of a MEMORY error. Try Memory modules one at a time, and see if the system boots with one module or the other. If it does, then replace the faulty module. If system will not post with either module, replace motherboard.

Laptop won't startup

Try removing your battery and then putting it back. If that doesn't work, then either your hard drive is bad or maybe even your motherboard is bad. If you can get into your computer's BIOS, check and see if it will allow you to do a system restore from the BIOS page. As stated above, it is probably that your hard drive is bad.
