SOURCE: Black out?!?!?

I finally got information from the repair shop. Apparently it is the upper and lower panel drive. The parts are supposedly not more than a couple hundred dollars, though I'll let you know when I get the bill. I do want to say that Hitachi was great when I called them. Even though my plasma is out of warranty by a few months, they agreed to pay for parts if I pay for labor. That just might keep me buying Hitachi products despite the issues I've had with my 2 plasmas.

SOURCE: White screen only on Sanyo DP26648

Your reported symptoms are odd in that most failures are related to the primary power supply but that takes down both audio and video.
The backlight is obviously working (white screen) but it is no longer receiving any video information and this points to a failure of the logic (or the output of the power supply that services logic) used to control pixels on the screen.  Some screens have the majority of the control ICs actually mounted on the LCD assembly and because of very close pin distances used on dense ICs, they are often not replaceable by hand since they were installed by robotics.
I would first suspect (and hope for) the logic voltage output of the power supply to be the culprit.
If any of you posters have had a repair done and received any kind of a detailed report (you should), would you be kind enough to post it back as a comment to this original message?

Hi katie_wood21,

About 80% of lcd tv failures are due to the backlight inverter, I suspect that is your problem.

An easy way to check it is:

  1. While tv is on and you have sound.
  2. Shine a flashlight on the screen.
  3. Loook very closely and see if you can see a video image.
If you are able to see video you have a backlight inverter failure.
If the tv is still under warranty you should begin the return or replacement process now. If no warranty you can take it to a local tv shop and pay about $250 to $350 for the repair, or you can repair it yourself.

Let me know your findings and I will assist further.

Please rate this solution, I know I didn't deliver good news but I gave you the truth without a big run around.

Change the main board if you have good picture and sound. If you don't have picture and sound, the inverter will also need to be change.

No picture Just Sound

Hi
There are different possibilities in your case¸but what happened to me ...
The LCD Backligh is out , I mean the bulbs or neons of the screen BACKLIGH, you have to check either the lights itself or the driver circuit which supply the HV to operate it, usually its a separate small long PCB beside the TV main board .
You can try this trick , Keep all lights off in the room and bring a table lamp, preferred a white neon one and face it lighted on the top of the screen with the TV on , try watch a very dark but exact picture with the sound you are hearing. This is a way to be sure that it is LCD backlights problem when using an external light to illuminate the screen .
It worked for me ,Good luck
