Help! Amp not turning on

I've had this amp for a little while now and it has been working great. I had a mtx thunder 8000 sub hooked up to it and one day the dust cap started pealing off. I am not an expert on amps or subs, so I did not think it was neccessary to un hook the power wire from the battery before removing the sub. Basically, since it is a dual voice coil sub, I think the amp may have shorted out when I removed the sub. I think it may have been because the speaker wires touched one another. So then I replaced the fuse, and it started smoking, and still won't turn on.

Im sorry to have to inform you my friend, if you saw smoke, you burned one or more of the resistors or output devices inside the amp. Without a service manual, it will be a hard call on what exactly cooked. In alot of cases please forgive me for saying so, but the ampis not worth taking into a repair shop to be repaired, because of the high cost these days of labor. Its too bad there are no user replacable parts inside of these amps. Good Luck. Ps Please do not forget to rate this thread?

Can you bridge 2 4 ohm kicker speakers to a mtx thunder 7801 amp?

Ya. Just hook one sub to your amp (bridged) and hook the other sub (positive and negative) to the first subs positive and negative

Amp and sub have been working great together then all of a sudden the amp is not putting out enough power to push the sub. MTX Thunder 311D

check to see if one of the RCA cables is unplugged or bad. check the gain check the sub level control on the deck if yours has one.

I have a mtx thunder 7801 and a sledge hammer box

Sounds like the subs are blown with the voicecoils fused together which means the amp is/was seeing a dead short ( zero Ohms reisitence) not good for any amp. Disconnect the speaker terminals from the amp and see if it turns on. The funny smell might have been the subs blowing up, i'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

2 MTX Thunder Problem.. Bridging?

Is there a option on the chanels that say ''Bridged''? If so, you can hook the subs up in parellel or series to get different ohm loads. Usually the lower ohms, the more power amp puts out. Those subs can handle 225 watts RMS whitch means the power it can handle constantly. If the amp gives more than 225 watts RMs, you could be at risk of blowing the sub. If you could give me the model # of the amp, I can be of more help.

MTX Thunder 81001 wont push subs

first of all you should check the minimal impedance your amp handles , if is class d it should handle between 1-2 ohms total impedance in a mono conection , meaning whatever quantity of subs you have hooked to your amplifier, their total impedance should the minimum the amp handles that way all the power from your amplifier will be used.

My subwoofer doesnt work

you mean that the SUBWOOFERS connected to the amp cuts off and come back on randomly?? did you bring the SUBS level to a high volume ? i suggest to check first the value of the speaker (ex. 4 , 8 , 16 ohms ) matches the same value with the amp . second , hows the subs connected , in series ? or parallel . you will need a multimeter for this task .

Mtx 895 trouble

check your fuse up front first. some amps will turn the light on with only the remote wire (the 12 volt signal from the head unit). That may be your issue. If not you need to check your signal input. try hooking the rca's to a diffrent source, i.e. other radio your tv anything with Rca out put. If still you get nothing then pull your subs out and take a regular 9 volt battery and touch the leads to the positive and negative of the sub. Just for a moment though if the subs move when they come in contact with the charge from the battery then my last suggestion would be to take it to a store where you can have an authorized tech check out the equiptment. Good luck
