There is really no need to do a test. If you turn the laptop on and you do not hear the fan running it is bad. If you let the laptop run for a while it will shut down because it will overheat without the fan running. You will have to take the laptop apart to get to the fan that sits on the motherboard.

My hp 620 keeps shutting down and giving issues starting up? I've opened, checked and clean the fan, which seems to be ok. Can it be a hard drive problem? Please help

Hi Banki,

You can use the UEFI diagnostic tools to test your hardware for failures. On boot press F2 repeatedly to access the tools. Then run the System Test -> Extensive Test to check all the major hardware components.

Are you getting any error messages at all?

Thank you,

371796-001 HP nx9030 heat fan works when tested

go to bios settings by pressing F10 for hp .. there select the optimal factory defaults.and engage and also save settings with F10 ...and exit ..This will get rid of any wrong settings made in bios ..related with he fan ..and should start proper..The only thing that can malfunction is caused by a higher temperature to start ,, and never get to it ..
If it still makes the same ..you should consider changing it ..or see the wires to be proper inserted..cause it has 2 for power and one for starting..and can be damaged..but still functional when you check it ..just the wire for the start to be damaged or not making contact .. ..

1. Restart the Notebook hit F10 key immediately during startup.Once you enter bios settings, hit F9 then Yes-enter key, then F10 --Yes for enter key.
2.During restart hit the F8 key and boot in safemode with networking.Try to connect to internet and download the bios update for your notebook from the link and install it

Laptop shuts down is there a progame to keep an eye on the temp of the laptop

The main reason for laptop sudden shutdown is because your laptop is overheating, the fan must be clogged with dust bunnies, you should blow in your fan vent, and maybe open it up through the bottom and clean your fan out, because thats the main cause of that..but here is a program you can use to check your fan temperature http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/

My cooling fan has stopped working - laptop is a hp pavilion, model tx2000

If you unplug the fan, you can test the connector to make sure the fan is bad and the problem isn't with the power getting to the fan.

You can get a new fan and heat sink assembly here (make sure the model number is the same as your computer):

http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/HP,Pavilion,tx2000,KX531AV,Laptop,Fans.aspx

But in the meantime, you shouldn't run the computer much because it can easily overheat without the fan.

yes, good do the ESC key, BIOS entry, .see BIOS work.
great , if yes, the the HDD is not booting windows? what?
NO, SCREEN STAYS DEAD NO MATTER WHAT.
Suspect now is the power pack. as low as $15 cost.
the pack is 19vdc, does it measure that? if not its bad. (or the pc is shorted)

at HP, the support ended. and is offically Retired

My hp laptop won't boot up , it powers up but nothing works

Simple test: boot from a Linux Live-CD like  http://pclinuxos.com/  and see how it works. If it's the same then you have a hardware fault - start by checking the memory and the fan on the processor. If it works just fine the use it to recover all your data and reinstall windows, it was corrupted.

Hp paviolon dv2000 shuts down by itself

Hi.
If computer turns off when idle, then check power saving settings, accessible from control panel.
If laptop turns off while you are using it, try first reinstalling the system to exclude system problems, or test the laptop starting OS from CD or staying in Bios settings mode, so to exclude installed system.
If laptop is still shutting down, then problem may be overheating.
Overheating usually happens when the fan is not coming , therefore when the computer overheats.Or the fan is not cooling enough and computer is overheating.

Monitor computer temperature using a software, check if Fan is coming up when temperature gets critical.

If fan comes up but does not cool enough, then replace the fan, it is not efficient anymore because of a bad bearing or dust. ~Also ensure that fan is well mounted, if fan has poor contact with CPU surface , cooling will be poor.

If fan does not come up, and critical temp is not detected, then the sensor on motherboard is bad, this is very uncommon. When this happens the problem is usually related to system or power settiings , rather than overheating.

If fan does not come up and temp is critical, then fan is faulty, replace it.

There are also more than one fan on many laptops, check that one of the fans (CPU fan, video fan) is not completely ded, and therefore cause for the problem.

By using the software below you can also find out if the problem is really overheating. If temperature results within normal range, then usually it is not overheating. In that case test systtem and check power saving settings.

Here is the software to control your fan and temp. sensor state:

Download SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer

Download SpeedFan 4.38

I'm having a problem with my hp 530 laptop.....the fan is running too high...how can i fix this???

some times this happens with hp laptops and can be resolved by updating the bios. Go to the HP website and check the drivers for you model and see if there is a newer version of bios. Also run the diagnostics on it and it will test to see if it is a fan problem or mother board problem.
