OK - All new genuine Canon cartridges installed. These cartridges have no electrical contacts, nor does the cartridge carrier in the printer. I have cleaned the ink ports between the cartridge and the carrier. When the printer is switched on the "Wrong cartridge" message keeps coming up on the LCD display.
1. With the printer powered off but connected to a power source, press the Power button while pressing and holding the Stop/ Reset button.
2. When the Power LED is lit, press the Stop/Reset button two times while pressing and holding the Power button.
3. When releasing the Power button and the Stop / Reset button (regardless of order), the printer will move into a service mode. (Waiting for menu selection)
4. When the LED lights in green, press the Stop/Reset button the specified number of time(s) according to the function listed in the table below.(Each time the Stop/Reset button is pressed, the LED lights alternately in. (orange and green, starting with orange.)

I tried this sequence but with no result. However I could not see any "Power LED" light. Is this the light labelled "Indicator light" - No. 14 in the Main Components diagram of the manual? Which "table below" are you referring to? Is that missing from your posted instructions?

Thank you for your advice Joe, but after talking to a Canon service centre and a print cartridge supplier we have decided to junk the Canon and buy a Brother!

Rover,
There in is the problem, these cartridges are not made to be refilled. You are lucky to have got away with this for this long. The most likely scenario is that your printhead has now failed which is why it will not recognise your cartridge.
The first thing you might try is to go out and buy a new cartridge. If this fails, then you will need to replace the print head. In this case, you would be better off calling it quits and getting yourself a new printer.
I am sorry if this is not all that you want to hear, but that is the facts and I would be doing you an injustice to tell you otherwise.

Sorry this isn't a solution but I'm having the same problem. Even if I exchange the colors, it's always the cyan no matter what slot it's in!?!?! Not the slot.
Can I turn that color OFF???

Hello !
Many cartridges now have expiration date chips built into them. So, since you mentioned that the cartridges are "old", they may have expired. Check the date.
Hope this helps.
