Repalce Door handle on GE Profile model number SCA1000DBB03

I was able to open the plastic cover on the Microwave door, and the top screw for the door handle. But to reach to the bottom screw, there is no easy way as there is metal frame, and bottom screw is behind the metal frame. Part number for metal frame is 1804 as per the GE design.
Looking for help.

There're some half a dozen or so small screws securing that frame to the door face. These screws must be removed. Then, the frame can be pried out by releasing the plastic snappers (with a flat screwdriver) while in the same time gently helping the frame to detach from these snappers' hold and the door face. It's a tidious, somewhat annoying task. The snappers may and will even likely break in the process, but aren't needed for the frame to be resecured to the door face after the handle is replaced. Note that the broken ends of the handle must be held with a pair of pliers or a flat screwdriver needs to be inserted bewteen each of them and the hole, or the ends will turn with the screws. This is because the metal screws' grip of the plastic handle broken ends is very strong and otherwise won't get separated.Once the above is accomplished, reassembling the door is a brease.

P.S.: The dual end latch may interfere somewhat with the job and can be removed for the process to be undertaken without it disturbing. It's easy to remove and replace that latch, including its spring.

Hi Neel72,
I got the same problem before and I found out how to get through the bottom screw. If you open the door of your microwave oven, you will see at the back portion of the door a plastic or vynil strip around the metal frame and glass screen, this border strip is snapped to the metal frame and you can easily remove this by using a small knife to un-snap the plastic strip. After you removed the strip the bottom screw will be exposed and you can now replace the broken handle.

Replacing the handle on ge microwave jvm2070bh002

To replace the door handle you need to access the door handle screws. On MOST microwave ovens, you just have to remove the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. This can be easily be accomplished by using a small screwdriver or putty knife and carefully insert along the seam of the inner panel and pry the plastic up. Work your way slowly around the perimiter of the glass to pop the panel loose. Use care not to pry against the glass. The glass is tempered and also has an RF shield that shields you from harmful RF radiation.

With the inner panel removed, the door handle screws are visibile and can easily be accessed with a screwdriver. Simply remove the broken handle and install the new one. Re-insert the inner door panel, gradually working your way around the perimeter of the door glass to ensure it snaps back into place and seats properly.

This repair can be done with the door in place, or you can remove it for easier access. If you decide the remove the door, open it all the way and lift straight up at the hinges. The door will lift off of the hinge pins. On some microwaves, you may have to remove the upper grill cover over the door (if equipped) to accommodate door removal. Place on a hard flat surface with some towels under it for padding. This protects the door facing from scatches.

NOTE: Some doors have a hinge pin that needs to be removed, or screws holding the door in place at the hinge.

You can view an exploded view diagram of your microwave at pcappliancerepair.com for reference. Just type in your model number and locate the parts listing for the door. If you have any questions, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

How do I replace the door handle on microwave?

Once you follow the youtube instructions to remove the inside cover you are ready for the next step.
Remove the six small screws that are adjacent to the window. After this the front plastic is held in only by plastic clips to the metal door. The plastic clips and the screws together hold this together.

Remove the entire door by lifting up and move it to a flat service. If the top vent cover prevents this just remove the two screws on top of the microwave and pull the vent cover off.

With the door lying flat you can pull the plastic frame out on top and bottom and see how the clips work. Now just work you way around the frame until it separates.

Install handle and reassemble in reverse order.

I have a GE Profile Microwave and the handle is broken....

I have the same issue. The Handle broke off my GE Microwave Oven (Model JVM1190SY 001). GE does not sell the handle seperately from what I can tell. I just ordered a new door. It's rediculously expensive. I tried to replace the handle with a nice drawer pull but couldn't find a size pull to match and I broke the plastic cover trying to get access to the screws for the handle, which is why I decided to buy the new door. Hopefully installation is not that difficult. This oven was manufactured in 2001, seems the handles have a 7 year life span.
