Sounds like your keyboard is sending the wrong signal (the one telling your PC to enter sleep mode) to your motherboard when you press space key, which (if true) would indicate it's faulty. It could also be you've contracted a virus and is playing a particularly nasty practical joke on you (let's hope that's all it does). Try connecting another keyboard to your PC and see if that helps. If it doesn't, then you'll need to clean your computer of any viruses. Try also disconnecting your mouse and see if that changes anything. If your keyboard comes with a shortcut utility software for it, run it and check there's no shortcut set on your keyboard's space bar. You've additionally specified you're not using wireless keyboard, but could you also please write what OS you're on?

You might want to check the batteries being wireless, also check the device conected to your tower that reads the keyboard, make sure its pushed in all the way or not being disturbed by any objects.

If the keys are jambed and you cannot free them then you most likely need to replace the keyboard.
Replacement keyboard is available from this WEB site.

Keyboard and mouse not working and monitor going to sleep

HP Pavilion Slimline S3400f Desktop.
dont worry ALL PC end up like this,, all do.. sooner or later..
NO OS stated, XP"? never post without OS stated, or answer get 10x more harder, See? make it easy for the helper and get more help.....
no Monitor stated. (maker, CRT, LCD what?)
The monitor is not fibbing to you BTW, the PC did go dead or to sleep. seems its monitor monitor of some kind with DVI.

if the monitor works on other PCs then the monitor is not bad.
i Bet it works (old ones 2002, have a hidden deep internal sleep mode. and is not yours IM sure now) DVI IS THE ONLY CLUE THERE.
So PC is dead. this PC came with only VISTA new,
is it still VISTA?????????
HP has support on it still
here (carbon dated by me 2008, IIRC)
https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-slimline-s3400-desktop-pc-series/3688715/model/3688723

this year,? get all those files and books there backed up
when HP support ends after 10 year rule, (be savvy?)

what keyboard USB or wireless keyboard mouse
use wired USB keyboards if wireless the battery is dead. easy no?

now in VISTA, go to Control panel, click power
turn off all sleep modes and all hibernate modes
the turn off screen savers, if turned on , disktop . RC right click
in display settings or personalize, turn off , need login to come out of sleep or screen saver.
try a real keyboard, that has USB cable yet? be first thing to do.
always keep a real keyboard, handy,,,
batteries fail. in all wireless devices like this (inside them)

luck you desktops have lies DIM fails. there are many.

http://www.pcdied.com/sleep-or-dim.html

one other way , and common is PC overheated.
all do that.
ever one not cleaned out every year,.

#1 all time cause of overheat and PC shuts down.

Is it possible to adjust the sensitivity of the keyboard? My spacebar doesn't work unless I press it uber-hard!

no there is not a sensitivity setting for the spacebars, however, some people have eaten or trimmed their fingernails and so on by their computers and in turn have gunk stuck up underneith the keys.

So check to make sure something has not landed up underneith it and clean it out if it has.
and make sure the keyboard is seated correctly. (if other keys dont work or don't work well this is a sign that the keyboard connectors are not seated correctly, but if all other keys work fine it is not a seating issiue and your cables are connected just fine.) If under warranty call the HP techs first!

otherwise http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01918142.pdf
Page 70 will get you to the techs maual on keyboard removal, cleaning and so on. a dry toothbrush and a vacume will go a long way though....

I own an HP Pavilion tx2110us, yesterday the laptop was working fine, i sent it to sleep and went to bed, today at the office, the computer simply doesn't start up, it powers up for about less than 1...

Hi,

Remove AC power and then the battery. Then just plug in the battery itself (no AC). See if the laptop will power up. If it does plug AC power back in and don't use the sleep mode as there are problems with some Microsoft updates stopping the computers from resuming from sleep.

Please let me know how you get on.

Good luck.

Compaq Presario stuck in sleep mode

Connect the monitor to some other computer, e.g., a notebook, and see if it does the same thing. If it does, then the monitor is the problem.
If it does not, then your computer is not putting-out any "video" signal, and so the monitor goes to "sleep".

If you have MORE than one VGA-output port on your computer, connect your monitor to the "other" VGA port.

Or, press-and-hold the ON/OFF button on your computer, to force it to completely shutdown.

I am running a model 1045 on VISTA. The sleep key puts my computer to sleep but what key wakes it up?

Hi there,

Normally when you put your computer to sleep with your keyboard you only have to press a key on the keyboard to wake the computer again.
I normally use my spacebar to wake my pc but any key should work fine.

Kind regards!!!

When I hit Fn and Spacebar still no backlight?

You might have to remove the tiny switch that is under the Right hinge. Your laptop thinks that the top is still closed. Just remove it and cut the two wires. Closing the lid won'd sleep the PC anymore, so be sure to hibernate before closing the lid.

System goes to sleep when spacebar is used

1) Navigate to the 'Power Options' (Start Search powercfg.cpl)
2) Select your power plan.
3) Click: Change plan settings.
4) Crucial Link: Change advanced powers settings
5) Research the Aladdin's cave of settings, in particular: 'Sleep'
6) Expand: Sleep after. If it's a laptop check both the 'Plugged in' and the 'On Battery' settings.
7) Choose: 'Never' to prevent your computer going into sleep mode.
8) Remember to click 'OK'. (Or apply if you want to configure more options.)
