Remove power and the battery. Replace the power lead and boot normally. Check all is OK power down, add the battery and re boot.
Don't use sleep mode it can cause untold issues.

Click on the link below to get to the Dell Support Main Page. Look on the left side of the page to see a column of blue colored links to various sections. In the second group/list of links click on "System Configuration". Once there, enter the Service Tag# of your laptop where indicated (your Service Tag# is on a slender white label on the bottom of your laptop and is always 7 characters, both letters and numbers) and you will arrive at a page with 3 tabs and will be viewing the center tab which shows all of your laptops original system components. The left-hand tab will say Warranty Information. Click on that and you will see the original ship date from the factory, and the history of the warranty.

Either power supply problem or blown surface mount fuse on the main board. First check all SMD fuses on the main board, and the fuse on the power supply board. If the power supply board fuse has blown replace it and try again, if it blows again you need to replace the power supply. If the power supply seems OK check all SMD fuses on the main board. There are 7 on the V3 and about a dozen on the V4 / V5 / V6.

you can replace the hard drive.but with the high cost of labor these days it would be better to get a refurbished on instead

I had a similar problem with two SONYs, it turned out on one there was a blown SMD fuse 4A, very near close by the DC power plug.

On the other the Power Management Board was bad and needed a replacement.

If you already went to the trouble of opening the laptop, see if you can locate a SMD fuse and check it. If there is none or if the fuse is ok, then see if you can locate the DC power management board and see if you can find a failed power mos on it.

Only way to remove a BIOS password on any computer is to remove all power sources from the motherboard so its memory can be cleared.

First, remove the main battery from the laptop. Then you must locate and find the little coin cell battery (It looks like a watch battery) on the laptop and remove it for about a minute or so. Then you can replace them in the opposite order.

Unfortunately, some laptop coin cell batteries are difficult to locate, or require an in depth dissection of the laptop to get to them. Without the model of the laptop, I cannot tell you how to get to it.
