this motherboard does not support your new Hard Drive. SATA is a connection type required for your hard drive. Your motherboard supports IDE connector. You probably can get a pci card that allows you to attach the hard drive.
n1996 is NOT the model number. ALL MSI boards are labeled n1996 - it's their C-Tick number. You need to find the actual model number which should be listed on a sticker near the main CPU socket. Search for that on msi's website.
