Just bought a 2005 Nissan Sentra today and the CD player is not working. It starts making a skipping sound as soon as I put the CD in it and then won't go all the way in. Will not play, nor will

try your starter and your couil packs

Start by getting the DTCs diagnostic trouble codes as they will point you in the right direction. You may have some blockage in the vent tube or the vent solenoid fail but really what good is guessing when you can simply get the trouble codes and have a starting point.

take to auto sparky if you have checked all power , fuses and earths,

lOOK BEHIND THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT. Compartmet is probabily plastic and all you have to do is push in real hard to get them past dash board.

The laser assembly has lost its ability to focus on disk surface. Replacement of unit is in order/repair not cost effective.

recently had this problem, take two credit cards or id, and use them as tweezers to pull out cd(s). It works better, faster, and does little to none scratches on your cd(s).

I have the same problem with the 2006 sentra

Either battery, or Starter. Test the battery to see if it is good.

the rattling sounds like its the hydrolic lifters (tappets or cam followers called also) not really a hard job just a pain cause you've to strip the engine to pieces to do. Its very time consuming so unless you've some experience i'd place this in the hands of an experienced mechanic. This should also stop the smoke problem.

The engine service light is on a timer from service to service so thats nothing to do with it.

The cd player your right about it just need the lazer llens cleaned. You can buy a cd cleaner kit for cheap in any music/record store.
