Hi,
This will be either the starter solenoid is faulty or the starter motor needs replacing.Have the solenoid checked before removing the starter motor.

Yes, the starter clutches sometimes get stuck on those bikes.
Then the starter turns at very high speeds and get broken.
Remove the starter from the engine ( that's an easy job )
Hold the starter in a bankwrench and connect a 12V battery to it. If the starter turns, he is OK, if not, replace the starter and his clutch system.

If u havn't checked the battery with an ohm meter, do so. If the meter reads 12.50 or higher start looking at your starter. The solinoid would click and a bad starter would nothing. You could try tapping on the starter with a small hammer while pressing the start button. If it starts or at least turns over, u need a starter.

sounds like the starter solonoid is not working properly if the batt cable got hot enough to smoke that says the batt, is ok and it is ok to jump with car, the solonoid is making the clicking noise and a real hot batt sometimes will make it work, the repair is simple and cheap if you are talented just get a solonoid repair kit three screws 5 min, and you are RIDEING.

SOURCE: 1999 Yamaha Vstar 650 Custom ...makes clicking noise when trned

i use a jump box on mine most weekends when i wanna take it out, i hook the red to battery and black onto my exhaust and it fires right up no problem. is the clicking noise coming from the fuel pump behind the ignition? it should click for a few seconds then stop. if it stays on then you are not getting enough fuel outta the tank, change the fuel filter and if bike had been stored for winter get a good fuel system cleaner, additive type. if in USA get Berrymans B12, double dose get bike to run hopefully let it stand overnight and all should be fine. fingers crossed. if is is clicking from somewhere else like starter or a relay by the battery, check all the ground terminals you can find

Sounds like the starter is dragging, when the bike gets hot the starter barely turns. And those bikes don't actually have an alternator. It's like a magneto system that keeps the battery from draining, but doesn't actually charge the battery. I would take the starter off and have it tested.

Hyosung avitar 650 wont stay running

Maybe this will help. This is a common problem that I have had with my GV250. Almost the same bike mechanically by Hyosung.

If the battery is low on charge and you are lucky enough for the bike to start. As per normal when first started it revs higher because the bike is cold, this turns the alternator fast to give you the electricity you need to keep the bikes computer working properly. Bike will warm up and revs drop down, alternater not turning as fast, not as much electricity being made. Bike will either stall or rev up and down irradically to try to produce its own electricity. This will occur when the battery charge is low and bike is at low revs, for example when you slow down for traffic or you stop.

If this is your problem. To resolve it when you are out on the road, keep the revs up, twisting your throttle gently when you are going slow or stopped. Give the bike a good long run on the open road to give the battery some charge from the alternator.

Make sure your battery is maintained. If you dont use your bike for a while it will lose charge just sitting there doing nothing. Give the battery a good deep cycle charge or take the bike for a good long open road ride.

All lights come on but bike had low battery so after several tries all the bike does is just click down by the battery.i was told that its not a good idea to jump a bike from a car,but i was stuck and...

The clicking is normal when a battery is low; the starter solenoid doesn't have enough voltage to engage fully so it just clicks. If you blew a fuse, there would be NO power at all to the solenoid or starter. The extremely low state of charge of the battery is sucking all the juice from the car battery and the battery doesn't want to give it up to the starter until it has a sufficient charge. Hooking up to a car is bad because a car battery has 40+ amps. The bike battery only has 4+ amps. You can burn out the windings in the starter and generator, ( or alternator, whichever your bike has ), by overloading with such high amperage. It can also mess up the bike's voltage regulator and rectifier. Just go out and buy a 2amp trickle charger and let the battery charge up overnight. Be sure there is water covering the top of the plates in each battery cell. Also, bike batteries only last for about two years. After that they don't want to take a charge and sometimes a battery will develop an internal short and will drain any charge very quickly. Time for a new battery. PLEASE rate my answer. Thanks.
