Its kind of late now but if it were my radio I would have a tech repair it and double check out any other problems the radio might have while he has it apart.

disconnect your internal speaker and see if it helps. Its a poor power supply filtering problem and it effects the speakerin many ways.check to see if it hums with only the external speaker attached.
Check RF transistor may have leakage, "probably won't show up on a regular meter, carefully inspect board for bad solder connections, buy semiconductor cold spray may help tracking faulty part.
Once its been hooked up backwards you have to change your diode in the radio, please do not keeping changing the fuse all you're going to do is mess the radio up worst, take it to a shop and let them repair it,and yes it is fixable if they tell you other wise get your radio and go to another shop.
Thats because your Rf is powerful on high settings..try taping a AM radio "ferrite bar" to your coax in the back of radio for "RF filtering". Keep your power supply 15 inches away from radio. I recommend unhooking talkback on radios (it always causes feedback). But make sure speaker is good distance from the radio. I'd say 10 feet or so, behind radio. Change external speakers or add one with a long cord.
