The Motorola Droid2 A955 does not have a SIM card slot. It has only an SD card slot. The Droid2 Global A956 has both an SD card slot and a SIM card slot.

Ahh! but there is a slot. Remove the battery and slide in the skinny sim card where you don't think there is space.....voila!

make sure the sim card can make good contact with the phone.
Also check if it doesn't have space to slide, causing it to loose contact with the phone.

I called Boost support about the same issue and I was told that that particular phone and any other Ic series phone by motorola will not work with Boost Mobile. There was also a few other phones that will not work. Try calling thier support line and requesting the list of phones that won't work. Good luck.
