MS word 2003 files not retreivable from Cruzer 8GB

I am using Microsoft Office Word 2003. I have saved a number of .doc files on my Cruzer Micro 8GB and can no longer retrieve them. 2 days ago everything was fine. Today, there are 3 word docs that I can not open. The error message is as follows:

Word experienced an error trying to open the file.
Try these suggestions.
*Check the file permissions for the document or drive
*Make sure there is sufficient free memory and disk space
*Open the file with the Text Recovery converter

None of these suggestions works.

I saved a Microsoft Word 2003 file on my SanDisk Cruzer 2GB USB last night and an Excel spreadsheet. Today, when I try to open the Word document, a 'File Conversion' box comes up with a code in it. I've tried to open the document with OpenOffice and WordPad too, but the code only comes up.

The Main Four Differences Between Microsoft Office 2007 and Microsoft Office 2003
There are few differences between Microsoft Office 2007 and Microsoft Office 2003. As we know, some new features have been added to MS-Office 2007. The appearance has also been improved. This tips is only created for those who are not familiar with Office 2007 so that they can learn it easily.
The main four differences are;
Menu bar :
See the picture below:
d5c6c35.jpg
Ribbon :
The ribbon with a Logo in MS-Office 2007, the normal drop down menus in MS-Office 2003 has been replaced. Most people who have been using Office 2003 got confused with this since we cannot see the File Menu button where we can directly select New, Open, Save, etc. But those are still there with the ribbon. This interfaces makes us easier while using the office suite. When we click the Ribbon (Office logo) on the extreme top left corner we will see the following bottons :
8c290cf.jpg
XML file Format :
When we talk about Office 2003, it means .doc file extension. Now a new file format has been added called .docx. If we save any file or data in this format, we can’t read or open it using previous versions of Microsoft office. But don’t worry, there are still the old file formats as well. And we can open the previous versions file format in Microsoft Office 2007. So if you are transferring a MS office file to another user or sending it through email, it’s best to sent it as .doc so that anyone who is using any version of Microsoft Office can open and read it.

If you ever come across more differences, please leave a comment so that we can help each other better. Good luck to you all.

Compatibility Pack for MS Office, doc to docx, ppt to pptx, xls to xlsx

This tip is all about the compatibility issues between the Office 2000, Office XP, or Office 2003 with Office 2007. Because all programs in Office 2000, Office XP, or Office 2003 used the old file extensions for its different programs. For example Word 2000 saved files with extension .doc, Excel 2000 with .xls and PowerPoint 2000 with .ppt. but on the other Office 2007 used the new file extensions for its different programs. For example Word 2007 saved files with extension .docx, Excel 2007 with .xlsx and PowerPoint 2007 with .pptx. Now the problem is that when you will try to open Office 2007 files into Office 2000, Office XP, or Office 2003 you will not open the file due to compatibility issues between both office versions (before 2007 and after 2007). Microsoft provides a free compatibility pack to convert Office 2007 documents to the Office 2000, Office XP, or Office 2003 format. There are many third party free converter are available but here we are using Microsoft office compatibility pack.

Please follow the given link to download free Microsoft compatibility pack -

Just install the compatibility pack after downloading........

In my PC Office 2003 is installed. Now sometimes I received Word & Excell 2007 files which is not opening in my PC. Can you tell me without installing Office 2007 how can I convert those docx and xlsx...

You don't have to convert the .docX or .xlsX to view in MS Office 2003, just install the "Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint File Formats" and you should be able to open files, created or saved as the MS Office 2007 format.

If you need to edit the files you can too, but you will saved it in the MS Office 2003 formats.

Hope it helps.

I saved an .odt file from another computer and i can't open it in a 2003 microsoft word. what should i do to open the file?

Hi .odt files will not be opened by MS word as a default. Most likely MS Word does not have the latest service pack. For Windows 2003, download Office 2003 SP2 as a minimum (available from Microsoft)
Download, Install and reboot computer if required.
When PC starts, start up MS Word 2003 which will have SP2 installed.
Locate the ODT file and then double click it. As SP2 for Office 2003 is installed (or MS Word 2003) The file will now open. The formatting might be a little off, but for the most part, all the text will be there and you'll be able to edit and make changes as you see fit.

In which we can open .docx files

You can open docx extension files only with MS Office 2007. If you wish to open it in earlier versions you have to save it again in compatible mode. Click on File (top left most corner with the logo), Save As, Word 97-2003 Document. Just using Save option will save your document as "docx" and not "doc" document.

Im using MS 2003... i just both this new pc for my house... my problem now we are using in the office MS 2007... all the my files now i cant open here in my house... i want to download MS 2007 to upgrade...

Office 07 default to 2 new extensions instead of the old .doc extension. 07 uses .docx or .docm (m is for documents containing macros).

If the document is just a standard one, you can go into file save as in 07 and save as.. 2000/03 compatible. 07 then saves the document with a .doc extension (this loses some of the nicer formatting 07 introduces but still looks ok). Then you can open the document at home.

If you cant rename the file as it is locked or something, then go here >

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word/HA100444731033.aspx

And download the compatibility pack. This lets you open these .docx/m documents with 2000/03 office.
