Go to you Yahoo inbox. Put a check mark in the box for one if the offending emails. Click the Actions button. Move down that list until you can select View Full Header. A small window will open that shows where the email really came from and how it got to you.

My yahoo account was recently used to send a large number of bogus emails,by a virus or hacker or something. How do I contact Yahoo to get my email service re-instated? I haven't been able to

yahoo is a prime target for contact hacking because it is easy.
I suggest u move to gmail and get ur contact off yahoo.
the emails were probably NOT sent thru ur account.
If u signed up with another email or phone u may be able to retieve ur account.

Strange emails in gmail

Most likely someone you have sent an email to in the past has had their computer hacked, exposing your email address, and now your email address is on a distribution list.

Nothing you can really do about this but mark as spam and possibly set up a gmail filter with some consistent common feature in the subject or message to always send them to spam or trash.

Some internet companies will lock your account if you have sent out an unusually high volume of emails. This is to prevent spamming. If you haven't been sending an unusually high number of emails someone may have hacked your account. You will need to contact Yahoo to get this issue resolved.

It appears someone has hacked into my yahoo email acct, my friends are sending messages that my yahoo email address is sending them malware & making it look like I am sending them something to open. ...

This has become a common problem in the past couple of months. Please follow the steps below in order:

1. Log on to your Yahoo mail account. Check in the "Sent" folder. If you see the bogus messages in question in that folder, then it can be assumed that someone has hacked your password and is using your account to send spam. You would then need to go to Step 3 (skip 2).

2. If you do NOT see the bogus messages in your "Sent" folder, then your Yahoo account has likely not been hacked, but rather someone else's computer (which does not use Yahoo) is infected with a malware bot that is sending out the messages independently of Yahoo, but spoofing your address as the sender. It gets the addresses to send to from that computer's contacts/address book. If this is the case, then you can't do much but advise your friends of the facts and that you're not responsible for the messages. Then go to Step 3.

3. In either of the above instances, it would be a good idea to first terminate your present Yahoo account, and open a new one with a different e-mail address. Choose a completely new, and hard to guess, password and new "secret questions." Advise your friends and contacts of your new address.

The problem that arises in these instances is that the user doesn't want to have to change their e-mail address, as that causes some inconvenience and is time-consuming. They would rather just change their password and secret questions and leave it at that. IF your situation is as in Step 1 (your account was hacked), then this MAY be sufficient. However, whomever hacked it knows your address and basically who you are, and had access to your address book. Your security is compromised any way you look at it.

The safest and most reliable method is to change your address, and your password/secret questions...and to advise your friends to please make sure their computers are clean of malware.

I strongly suggest using SpyBot Search & Destroy v1.6.2 from Safer Networking for malware protection. It is highly regarded, free, and not too difficult to use.

Hope this is helpful.

Well, if you post the pw and user name online someone will surely hack it. Go to where the login is and use the password reset link they provide. You have two options, get the password sent to your alternate email if you spcified one or you can answer a secret question to reset it yourself. If that does not work contact Yahoo and they will send you a new password. And in future do NOT post usernames or passwords online in a public forum even if you are locked out of an account.
