Open Control Panel - Display - Settings tab then in Screen resolution move the slide to get the screen resolution 1680 x 1050.
If this resolution is not available the the graphics card cannot support this resolution and you need to set it as close to 1680 X 1050 as possible or upgrade to a better graphics card to get this resolution.

I have an acer AL1912 and a (auto config please wait) gray box keeps popping up,how do i stop it

If it gives you message about the resolution, set the computer to use native resolution of the monitor. You can change the resolution by right clicking on desktop and choosing "screen resolution".

Resolution notice it says the best picture quality change to resalition to 1024x768 1 exit 2 disable how do i get rid of it

LCD monitors have what is called a native resolution. This is what the actual/physical display resolution is. When you try to display outside of this then you get the error. The easiest way to get rid of this is to set you video display resolution to the native monitor resolution.

If you look at the message it is saying if you hit 2 it will disable the error. To change the resolution in windows you can just right click anywhere on the desktop that is empty. This brings up the display properties. Go to the settings tab. At the lower left is a slider. Just slide it to show the desired display size in your case try the 1024x768 setting then hit apply. The screen will change and a nother window should pop up and ask if you want to keep the settings. If you take too long or say no it just resets to the prior settings. You can change it at any time.

1024x768 is a good setting it is high enough that the display is clean and sharp. And most web pages are designed around this size. Try it not only to get rid of the error but also to see what everything looks like. You can always change it back.

Message received is "Resolution Notifier best resolution is 1280*1024 notification keeps appearing on monitor and I cannot get rid of it. the picture appears fine, why does the message keep appearing?

This is similar to the "out of range" message that many flat monitors give when the resolution is maybe higher than the monitor would like.

It has given you the suggestion for a good reason. As with most monitors flat or crt it is possible to shorten the life of them if you abuse them in this way.

My suggestion is to lower your resolution to the one it offer you.

RectangulaR box on my screen says: input not supported

If your monitor is displaying a message, that's good news: Your monitor is not shut. What the message is saying is that either the refresh rate frequency, or the resolution you have set your video card to on your pc/laptop, is too high for your LCD (I assume) monitor, and it cannot handle these settings.
It would appear that the default refresh rate for LCDs is only 60Hhz.
Reboot your machine in SAFE MODE, pressing the F8 key repeatedly as soon as the initial POST messages disappear from the screen. Next, select Safe Mode from the different options shown.
Once the PC starts and you're running Windows, go to Control Panel->Appearance and Personalization->Adjust Screen Resolution->Advanced Settings->Adapter->List All Modes and verify that the resolution that's been set is within the range allowed by your monitor.
Your user's manual should have this information. In case you don't have this information, change it to something safe, like 800 x 600 pixels, at 60Hz refresh rate.
Close all windows, reboot, and Voila! Your monitor is back to life!
Should you wish to continue to improve your monitor resolution, then right click anywhere on an empty spot on your desktop, and choose Personalize->Adjust Display Settings, and try a higher resolution, remembering to leave the refresh rate at 60Hz.
Good luck!

Need Help Setting Up Monitor

Basically the monitor wants your video card to feed it the display at a resolution of 1024 by 768 pixels. The 60Hz is the frequency and is standard for lcd monitors. Since the monitor is designed for 1024X768, it is shutting itself off in order to prevent damage.

To change your resolution (I'm assuming you have Windows), right click on a blank area on your desktop and select Properties from the list that pops up. The Display Properties windows will open, click on settings and change it to 1024X768. Next click on the Advanced button and then the Monitor tab and make sure the refresh rate is set to 60 Hertz
