Poor quality black output

Black output is poor, grey and missing image. Colour is fine.
Installed brand new black toner but still same problem (unit did not report that toner was empty, but worth a try).
I have noted that this problem seems to be repeated by others.
Have now reported to Samsung and awaiting response.
My printer is less than 9 months old and is little used, still using the original toners that were shipped as new (apart from the now new black one!)

Thank you for taking the time to read and respond... you are absolutely correct in your comments. There is indeed a defect because I called Samsung and tried the "cleaning" routine and of course it did not work - Samsung did offer to send an engineer to fix.

I returned the unit to the store where I purchased it - Staples - and they exchanged it (at no cost) for the new Samsung 315 unit and threw in a pack of paper.

By the way, my unit had less than 300 mono copies and less than 1000 colour copies on the counter and therefore the imaging unit is definitely dodgy.

I believe that the response by Samsung and Staples was professional and handled without fuss... well done to them.

Comment on the 315 - I have made limited use since collecting it. Colours are much more vibrant than the 300 but it is noisier and there are more limitations with the paper feed - eg "thick" materials have to be fed one sheet at a time through the paper tray.. not a good solution, can see the tray breaking with continually pulling in and out when printing "thick" materials (envelopes, labels, quality paper, etc)... lets hope I dont end up returning annother unit.. I would not recommend the 315 if you generally need to run different papers.

Yes I have exactly the same problem. I don't know how to tell how many copies I have made with the printer- would appreciate it if someone comments on that. My printer has always had an electrical problem as well that dims all my lights when it gets ready to print.

There are probably better choices out there if Samsung can't help. Any comments?

My unit has uneven print darkness - lighter on the left side and OK on the right.  New toner cartridge has not changed the symptoms.  Looks like  call to Samsung is on tap.

Black printing prints in various shades of gray from very light to medium, with the occasional black word thrown in. I put in a new toner cartridge even though the old one had not run out. I have used the manual and cleaned and shook everything it told me to. I have downloaded the Samsung Dr Printer problems,
but I still have my problem. Don't know what to do now.

There is a defect in the Imaging Unit of these printers....if you replace the imaging unit, the problem of the faded black prints go away. If you have less than 7000 prints, you can call Samsung for a warrantied replacement. The Imaging Unit is supposed to last at least 20,000 prints.

Samsung clx 3185 printing is all faded, colors and black

When you go to print, your printer driver should have quality options. Make sure you're not using "economy" or "draft" mode. Try "quality" mode.

I'm not quite satisfied with color and black tone. What settings would you recommend.

You do not say what exact model of printer you are using so any answer will be generic rather than specific.

Poor colour and black tone can be as a result of various factors:
1. Poor paper quality that you are printing on.
2. Poor ink or toner quality being used.
3. Use of Ink / Toner saving modes or software.
4. Worn or damaged printer components such as the fuser roll on a laser printer and other similar consumables with a limited page use life.
5. Poor quality content being printed, i.e. low quality images being printed at too high a print resolution.

Have Xerox 7300DN Printer. I am getting white lines in black color only. Have done all steps in the Xerox Diagnosing Print-Quality Problems page. Did not solve issue. Supplies usage page states black toner...

It looks like you may have some damage to the black IU. If you have an old one or a spare to try as a test that might help. The drum is easily scratched and this then produces marks or lines in the appropriate colour.

Poor quality prints ( even in black ) Brand new toner cartridge Have tried different qualities of paper

I am a computer dealer in Perth and had to replace 5 of these printers out of my pocket. There is no fix and Samsung was very unfair and refused to replace these shoddy printers. Colour printed fine but black is faded.
It makes no difference if original toners or compatible ones are in use.
Samsung is very unprofessional in refusing to replace these printers with an inherent design fault.

Pring quality on Samsung CLP-300 colour laser

If you the image is faded and your toner supply is good, the problem is the developer blades in the imaging unit. During the normal use of the printer, there is a buildup of toner that sticks on the developer blade. The developer blade meters the amount of toner that gets to the drum that ultimately makes it to the paper. As the toner buildup increases on the blade, less and less toner that gets to the drum cause the image to fade.

To fix this problem you will need to disassemble the imaging unit and clean the blades or buy a new imaging unit. I have clean my blades and I don't have 20000 images it is about 7000 and I have a document to show you if you are handy.
