Refrigerator Compressor hot to touch & fridge/freezer not cooling

I have a F&P E372B refrigerator, the compressor is very hot to touch, & fridge/freezer not cooling, the fan in freezer works,I removed the defrost cable no change, relay & overload tested ok. is the compressor drawing to much current? If so can this be fixed without having to replace compressor & regas etc? Is there a reset button? Help.

Could also be the start capacitor. Check that as well.

You need to do an amp draw with your meter, clamp the run wire on the compressor, you should get 2-5 amp reading, any higher means the compressor is going bad, also should be a locked rotor amp(LRA) reading on comp.-mike

Hi i have a defy f640 SS fridge...the fridge side works fine...but the freezer side is not cooling...please help

Hi,

Please ensure that you're using a compressor that is compatible with your fridge. You can compare your newer compressor to the one that was originally installed to your fridge. If the newer part number is different from that of your older compressor, then you might want to swap it for the exact model of your old compressor.

Otherwise, you could use a handyman from Angi or Home Depot in order to overcome the issue.

Thank you.

I have a Kenmore model 106.58964700 that both the freezer and refrigerator stopped working. The service technician said it was the start relay (Sears part number 2319792). I replaced the part with one...

Daleb870, Compressors on referigators run hot to the touch. You are experinceing a couple diffrent issues. First off 0 and 36 is a very ideal temp. The compressor and tubing are most likely hotter than normal as it was trying to cool down a fridge that was house temperature. After the fridge runs for a while and the load on the fridge is equalized the tubing will not be quite as hot. It and the compressor will still be very hot to the touch. The compressor its self right aroung 130f. But its normal.

Refigerator not cooling and hot to the touch

It sounds a lot like lost charge caused by a leak in your system. If your unit has been moved or improperly cleaned, some part of the pressurized system may be damaged.
Refrigerant (with very small molecules) may leak off over many years but it shouldn't happen in the single digits.

Freezer not freezing and fridge not cooling

Check the back wall of the freezer for ice buildup.
If yes, a defrost parts problem.
Check the freezer fan. Is it running?
If no, replace the freezer fan.
Check the condenser fan at the compressor. Is it running?
If no, is compressor hot?
If compressor is hot replace condenser fan motor.
If compressor is not hot.
Replace the compressor start relay.

Losing coldness in freezer and fridge. side panels near freezer door are extremely hot to the touch. bottom back of the fridge is extremely hot.

Condenser is in need of being cleaned badly or your fan motor to cool the condenser is not operating. Compressor is overheating. Removed the panel in back of the refrigerator and clean the condenser so air can freely pass over it for heat removal. Allow compressor to cool off before restarting it.

GE refrigerator not cooling

on most refrigeration, the refrigerant goes to the freezer first and the tail end to the fridge. it is probable that the compressor is failing. compressors are quite hotg when running but not too hot to touch. if the compressor is too hot that also indicates failure. doubt it is worth repair
