According to Canon, the error that you are getting is related to the print head overheating. Usually the one connected to the color ink. What they recommend you to do is to replace the ink cartridge. Preferably the colored one.

originally, when u have ink cartridges in Canon product run low u need to buy new ones, because it was designed like that. even u have refilled the old cartridge full, it will detected low ink because the old cartridge already detected for the beginning. this designed to make Canon buyer to buy new ones ink cartridge. but, there some trick to make your old cartridge detected as new one, all u need just to reset the setting for cartridge recognition. try to visit this site: http://resetcanon.com/reset-canon-mp250-pixma-inkjet-all-in-one-printer/

Hello, make sure you removed the orange tape from the cartridge. usualy E5 is when the color cartridge is faulty but if the orange tape is on the cartridge it will show E5. if you removed the orange tape an it still shows E5 go with the cartridge to the store where you purcess it for excange.
I use refilled cartridges. Okay, the printer says ink low, but it does that all the time. I ignore it. However, yesterday it printed not a problem, today it gives me code 5. Does anyone have a real solution or should I throw the printer away?
