Actually Windows Vista should detect your player without any problem. There's no specific driver required to run install this model on Windows computer. There are few tools, but you wont need those tools like firmware update utility. You can try this:

Hi, thomson Lyra PDP2556 is exactly the same as the RCA RD1076 so if you go this address:

and select downloads and download Drivers Update/ Restore Utility
install (with your thomson connected to the PC) and then you'll have resurected your thomson. Mine was always frozen like yours and now it works.

Firstly, is the Thomson 6717 the same as the RCA Pearl TH1602 ie are they made by the one company under different names for marketing in different countries. If so, go to the following site for a choice of three firmware downloads. Please advise if this works on your Thomson 6717.

This unit is actually produced by RCA. If you go to their website you can download Firmware, and Software to update the unit. You can also try to do a "reset". There is a very small button on the bottom, if you press this with a pen and hold it for about 3 seconds it may start working again.

if it say something about firmware. yes, it needs an update for its firmware.

You may be missing a critical windows update, or the firmware needs upgrading (or both).
Go to: update.microsoft.com for the updates (specifically, you need to convert this device to an MTP device, rather than an MSD device; msd is the old standard; MTP is the new).

Is it possible you deleted system files along with other files by mistake? It's a very common problem, and it would be good to know what causes this since some people say its because the Lyra allows you to delete system files which screws the device. I heard of someone that called Thomson helpline with this problem and got his replaced, so it wouldn't hurt to try.
