THere are three possibilities, open magnetron "heats food" cracked high voltage diode, or a shorted high voltage capacitor.

Kenmore Microwave model Fan running and light on when door closed.

This is normal. Kenmore microwaves will stay running with fan and light on for a short time after food is cooked. The reason is to air out the microwave after cooking. Things like pop corn, Bacon etc. have strong smells after cooking. The ventilation helps to remove odors.

Fan runs when door is closed and no time set.

Some GE units were starting on their own. I would definitely unplug this oven and call GE to make sure yours wasn't one of the ones being re-called.

The unit will count down, light will come on, the unit will not heat nor will the turn table run. I jumped out the door switch and the unit will run, however it powers downs.. and runs slow... Any ideas??

HELLO.

That the microwave will not heat solution.

1 Make sure the door is closed. If the door is not closed tight, the microwave will not function.Sometimes food will get stuck in the door and prevent the latch from working. Use the paper towel to get the food out, then close the door carefully and listen for the latch to click.

2 Check the power sources. First, make sure the microwave is plugged in; the plug may have shifted or slipped partway out of the socket. If it is plugged in and still does not work, voltage test the outlet the microwave is plugged into. If you are not getting a reading, the breaker is probably blown. Reset the breaker for that outlet in your home's circuit breaker box.

3 Reset the microwave breaker. Take the back cover of the microwave off with a screwdriver. Inside you will find a motor. Most microwave motors have a small red reset button on them. Hit that button. Your microwave should work again if the breaker was the issue.

That the microwave turntable will not run solution.

Needed equipments are:
  • Screwdriver
  • New belt
  • Continuity tester
  • Bearing lube
    • 1 Inspect the turntable base wheels and guides. If they are gummed up with food or
    • other gunk, they will not turn and the turntable will not rotate. Clean as needed.

    • 2 Remove the microwave case by unscrewing the casing screws with your screwdriver. Locate the turntable motor which will be directly beneath the oven floor.

    • 3 Inspect the belt that connects the motor to the rotating table. If the belt is broken, replace it.

    • 4 Touch the probes of a continuity tester to the electrical contacts on the motor. If the tester lights up, the motor windings are good, which means the motor is functional. If there is no light, the motor needs to be replaced.

    • 5 Check the wires leading from the cord to the motor itself. Look for any breaks in the wire, or a wire that has been pulled off of any electrical connection. Any connection that has been compromised can be soldered back into place, but if the cord is damaged at all, it needs to be replaced.

    • 6 Attempt to spin the motor by hand if the continuity is good and the belt is in place. It should spin freely, but if it is difficult or doesn't move at all, you will need to lubricate the bearing. Either apply spray or bearing lube to the motor axles to solve this problem, and allow the motor to spin freely once again.

    • THANKS.

My microwave is completely dead. I have checked the fuse in the plug and it is fine. Any suggestions?

Hello,

What you are to do to solve the problem is to do a general troubleshooting on your oven below are instruction to follow.

The Microwave is a counter top model with a variety of preset cooking options, including timed cooking at a variety of power levels and sensor-cooking settings for popcorn, rice, beverages and single-serving reheating.

The sensor cooking and reheating features detect increasing humidity levels inside the microwave and automatically adjust cooking time for various types and amounts of food. This microwave also includes a turntable and an electronic control panel.

Instructions below are step by step solution for your oven

  1. Check to see if the microwave will start. If it will not start and the display panel is blank, you may have a power problem. Unplug the microwave and then plug it back in, making sure that all three prongs of the power cord are fully inserted into the wall outlet. If this doesn't work, check your home's fuse box. Reset the circuit breaker to restore if necessary.
  2. Ensure that the microwave door is fully closed. Press the Clear/Off button to cancel any previous cooking instructions. Re-enter your cooking program, including cooking time and food weight if necessary, and press Start.
  3. If "Err" appears on the microwave display, press the Clear/Off button and reenter your cooking program. The "Err" message will appear during the sensor-controlled programs (Popcorn, Rice, Beverage or Reheat) if the door is opened before steam is detected or if no steam was detected within the maximum amount of time allowed by the microwave. Be sure to leave the door closed during these programs, at least until time is shown counting down on the display panel.
  4. If your control panel will not work or if an "L" is displayed on the screen, press and hold the Clear/Off button for a full three seconds to unlock the control panel.
  5. If your sensor reheat program is resulting in under- or overcooked food, first try decreasing the amount of food in the microwave; the sensor programs are designed for single servings of food. The sensor reheat function works by measuring humidity inside the microwave--do not use a tightly-covered dish with this setting because no moisture will be able to escape and the food will overcook. Be sure that cooking containers are dry; moist containers will increase the humidity in the microwave and mislead the sensor, resulting in undercooked food.
  6. If your turntable is not rotating, first check to ensure that your food container is positioned so that it can freely rotate without hitting the microwave's interior walls; using a smaller food container can fix this problem. If the turntable still will not rotate, lift the turntable from its support and replace it carefully, ensuring that it rests evenly on its support.
Good luck.

Thank you and thanks for using fixya.

My sharp R-798 has stopped heating food and the turntable no longer rotates?

Please check your door safey interlock micro switches.

If you need help with this, please let me know.

What frequently happens is because you probably open the door while the oven is running, (like most of us do) the little micro switches get burned and eventually cannot tell the oven that the door IS, indeed, closed. When the door is "open" (forget that you know the door is closed - the MACHINE needs to know it too) the oven will not turn on the heat.

If you need more info, let me know please.

Microwave runs but does not heat food either with sensor or manual timing. Occasionall will displasy 'SENSOR ERROR'. Have closed door and pressed CLEAR/OFF per manual instructions, but still does not...

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for maybe an hour.

Then let us know if the hard reset does not fix it.

INFO: On GE models, "SENSOR ERROR" appears on the display when:
  • Using the sensor feature, the door was opened before steam could be detected. Do not open the door until stream is sensed and time is shown counting down on the display.
  • Steam was not detected in the maximum amount of time. Use Time Cook to heat for more time.
If the reset didn't fix it:

When you hit Start to cook, do the inside light and turntable come on?

Any unusual noises?

Is it louder or quieter than usual?

Do you have the model number?

These answers will help me judge whether it's in the high voltage section (magnetron, transformer, or diode) or the control section (door switch or control board relay or connection).
