My CanonMX410 print in a chinese or funny language, the screen is correct in English, the settings is correct as English, but it print in Chinese. It's pdf-documents that print that way.

Looking up in the manual might not be practical because you won't find the setting and language option if you have your device in Japanese.
I don't mean to sound funny but I would like to share a personal experience: I bought some time ago an mp3 player without manual and with an on-screen menu. After some use, form one moment to other, without any apparent reason, language reverted to "default" Chinese - with chinese characters. I could solve the problem with the help of the manager.of in my favorite Chinese restaurant.
SO FIND A FRIENDLY JAPANESE and ask if he or she can help you..

On Control Panel-Touch Screen, Down right Side there is a tab to change the languages/Language Setting.
Even if it is Chinese or Portuguese language showing just click on the down right side button on touch screen, a new menu will appear. From there you can select your desired language.English-Chinese etc.

I would try to be a little sneaky if the writing is in Chinese----Yahoo has a free online service called Babel Fish---type some common words like English, Menu etc and compare them to the writing on screen when you enter the menu--looking for the language the set is set to in that language.

It will translate words from chinese to English and vice versa.

Short of getting someone who reads and speaks that language it is the only simple way I know to approach this odd issue.

Given the fact that ATM machines now offer instructions in several languages I would be glad it is not Russian.

find settings (chinese = ??, japanese = ??)... then go to languages (chinese = ??, japanese = ??)... and change it back to English (Chinese ??, Japanese ??)

Try typing this code in the dial pad:
*#0044# It should set the language to English.

If the menus are all in Chinese then you will need to install an Enlgish version of Windows XP.

go onto the settings and and try to find language but know how far to go down or anything..by using user manual try it out in settings

Menu-->settings-->world or region or international-->languages-->english
