Tryin g to hook up broadband web connect am being told moblie radio is off and connecting is disables
Hi Peggy, Go to your menu bar in the top-right corner of the screen. Just to the ,left of the clock you will see a little fan-shaped symbol.
If it is just an outline shape then the wifi is turned off.
Click o0n it and hold the click. A menu will appear and one of the entries will be "turn Airport on"(or turn WiFi on - they have changed the wording recently).
Select that line and wait a moment. The Fan icon will change into 3 grey bars (but still in the same fan shape). The bars will cycle through balck while the wifi looks for base stations. It will then say something like "none of your trusted networks are available, do you want to connect to any of these?" and it will show yuou a list of the base stations it can see. Those with a padlock next to them will require a password. Once you have selected a network and made the connection, the computer will remember it for the next time so you won't have to go through this again.
If the wireless doesn\t turn on and stays with the outline icon, then you need to get the Mac looked at.

the airport is turned on and i can connect using wifi but can not use broadband cant delete any downloads to reinstall to get it to work
Hi Peggy, you will need to be a little more specific about what is going on. + I don't understand the second part opf your comment.
So you can connect to a wifi base station but cannot connect to the outside world. Is that right?
What happens if you conmnect to the router using ethernet (physical cable)? Can you hit the internet then.
Normally if you can connect to a router - either wirelessly or by ethernet, then you should be able to hit the internet. f you cannot then the problem coulod be the computer OR it could be the router. Can other computers connect to the net using the same router?
OPpen your network settings in System preferences and have a look at the Airport Tab. Select advanced and have a look at that it says in the DHCP section.
Do any of the numbers start with 169. or are they all starting with 192.?
If it's 169. then the mac is NOT talking to the router.
Post back and we'll try to take it furtther.
