LP or natural? Got gas? Is there anything in the house gas? Stove, etc? Age of heater? The control can be replaced under warranty no problem, would be easier to check the heat switch, I have forgotten what it is called, just a piece of copper wire that touches the pilot, when it reaches a certain temp it opens the gas valve stating the flame, If it is shot, and they go bad, it will not let the burner ignite. Safety feature on all gas appliances. I had one go bad, went crazy tying to fix it, just a little wire, then got a new one in the mail free from the company, and put the old one back in with a new wire, no problem. Check it out. Thermo coupler maybe??

Gas water heater has pilot/ignition. Repaired broken pipes so had water off but used hot extensively after repairs, 12 hours later nothing. How do I check water supply to heater, or troubleshoot what?

First thing did you open all the shut off valves in the water lines going to or from the heater. I shut one off one day and forgot to open it up. Frustration was the word.
Check for air locks in the tank and or pipes.
Do you have galvanized pipes or copper? Old galvanized can plug up with rust. Is there a filter in your system?Filters can plug up.

Boiler won't ignite for hot water unless heating is on.

If this is in a RV the propane monitoring valve may require more gas flow to turn on than the water heater requires. A central heating system requires substantial gas flow so when the monitoring valve opens to fire the central heating, there is enough gas flow to also fire the water heater.

When trying to ignite electric pilot light, when pushing button to ignite, pilot doesnt spark to create flame

Pull out sparking rod and lightly polish with fine steel wool. then put back together. Could be in control box but I doubt it. You will probably see mild corrosion on rod.

Self igniting hot water heater won't reset.

Today's water heaters have sealed combustion chamber and piezo igniter.
If igniter is bad, then water heater will not light... replace igniter.

Gas ignites flame but water is not getting hot

You have gas water heater with working burner.
But not getting hot water at faucet?

1) Bad faucet cartridge. Test for crossover. Copy following link:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Crossover.html

2) Is there hot water inside the tank? Open drain valve and check for hot water.

3) Drips and leaks: Turn off all taps and put ear against pipe and listen for water leak.
Water leak can run all the hot out of tank.

Cannot find pilot light on my bosch GWH635ESL, help!

Call Bosch
Gas Products Technical Support: 800-642-3111

That model number is only shown at one website, and that model number is not shown at Bosch.
Open following link for Bosch:
http://www.boschwaterheater.com/BoschHotWatercomHome/GasProducts/tabid/331/Default.aspx
Search of Bosch for that model number shows no result.

Some water heaters do not have a pilot light. Instead they use hot surface igniter rod that glows red hot
The igniter rod ignites the gas after solenoid valve opens and gas flows to combustion chamber.
The igniter rod and heat sensor have to be operational, and have to be positioned correctly for ignition to take place.
If igniter rod is not working, or if heat sensor does not detect flame, then gas solenoid valve shuts down and water heater does not heat water.

Hi i have a power vent water heater model #-6g40pvw-40f. It go's into lock down mowed one light lit on vaction two more on A-and B is it the heating element or lighter mechanison thank you mike from...

Hello Mike,
Check gas pressure, burner parts need to be cleaned, check electrical outlet, hot surface igniter is bad

White Rodgers intellivent error code:
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-adjust-water-heater-temperature.html#Intellivent
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Intelli-vent-gas-valve2.pdf

Error code says: system in lockout, but you know that.
1) Low gas pressure, no gas to water heater: call gas company to check pressure
2) Hot surface igniter not positioned correctly: inspect and clean burner parts.
http://waterheatertimer.org/images/Reliance-hot-surface-ignite.jpg
3) Low voltage to water heater/ outlet has wrong polarity: Use circuit analyzer on electrical outlet to make sure polarity is correct

Typical power vent manual:

Cleaning water heater:

No hot water, pilot light lights but no burner ignition

Thermo coupler may be defective. it controls the main gas valve by closing main if pilot is out. make sure thermo coupler bulb is positioned over and near tip of pilot flame, but not in the flame. Thermo couplers are inexpensive and easy to change out.
