I want to use my compaq nc6120 through a digital projector (Optima). The projector is connected by the monitor vga ouput, and should automatically connect to the computer but is not receiving a signal. How do I get it the Compaq to output?
You can switch to anexternal monitor by two methods.1. Connect the externalmonitor to the laptop's video port, power up the external monitor first and thelaptop. The video information will automatically switch to the externalmonitor.2. If you power up thelaptop first then you can switch the video output to the external monitor bypressing the Fn key and one of the Function keys, depending upon your make andmodel laptop. You can also toggle between the external monitor or both LCDscreen plus the external monitor or back to LCD screen only by pressing the Fnkey plus one of the function key. Here is a lkeycombinations for the laptops :-HP and Compaq = Fn + F4

There is a key on the keyboard that has blue text on it. Something to the effect of LCD or CRT. With the monitor connected and turned on, press and hold the FCN KEY as well as the LCD/CRT key. While holding the FCN key keep hitting the CRT key until the image transfers to the external monitor

Hold the fn key and look for something that looks like this ‘I[]I’ on your keyboard with the TV connected. The key is usually on the numbers across the top.

6710b does not support DVI even though they never said so in the documentation, i'm betting that 6715b does not either. I'm pretty bummed about it. My nc6400 worked great, just switched to the 6710 and my dual monitors would not work, with a little research i found that the DVI on the docking station, simply is not supported. No matter what your monitor configuration is...Ctrl+Alt+Del to you too HP!

This is a known issue with the nc6xxx series. The problem is with the Maxim chip that needs to be resoldered. Take a look at this repair manual, it has all the instructions you'll need to do a Maxim chip resolder http://ebooksandtutorials.com/toshiba-m35-hp-nc6000-laptop-repair-manual
