How to turn ON WLAN?

HP Wireless Assistant says it is turned off and Assistant can not turn it on from there, but gives no clue what to do. The light on my f12 key is on as normal. When I hold the fn key and press f12 nothing changes. There is no switch to turn on wireless like the older laptops. In one search they said there would be a certain key to push. I wondering if maybe the WLAN Module might have gone BAD?

Here are some essential step that you have to follow.
Connecting to a WLAN

To connect to the WLAN, follow these steps:
1. Be sure that the WLAN device is on (the wireless light is white). If the wireless light is amber, press
the wireless action key (f12).
2. Click the network icon in the notification area, at the far right of the taskbar.
3. Select your WLAN from the list.
4. Click Connect.
If the network is a security-enabled WLAN, you are prompted to enter a network security key, which
is a security code. Enter the code, and then click OK to complete the connection.
NOTE: If no WLANs are listed, you are out of range of a wireless router or access point.
NOTE: If you do not see the network you want to connect to, click Open Network and Sharing
Center, and then click Set up a new connection or network. A list of options is displayed. You
can choose to manually search for and connect to a network or to create a new network connection.
After the connection is made, place the mouse pointer over the network icon in the notification area, at
the far right of the taskbar, to verify the name and status of the connection.

My wlan (function/F10) key doesn't work/light stays amber!!!!! No wireless internet/Internet only works when directly plugged into PC.

Check in device manager for the wireless card. Right click 'my computer' select 'properties' click the hardware tab and device manager, it should be listed as a network device. if it's listed update the drivers, it may just be disabled in windows. If it's listed as installed and working correctly in device manager it may be faulty.
you can also try running 'cmd' to lauch the command prompt and typing "ipconfig /all" this will show all available devices in your computer and their state.

Good luck.

I am having trouble connecting to the internet because my WLAN has been turned off, how do I turn my wireless back on?

From the HP website:

The power to the wireless network and bluetooth devices is controlled by a switch or button on most computers. It is possible to accidentally bump the button and turn off the wireless service. c02230159.jpg On most computers, there is an LED light that glows blue when the wireless device is turned on and enabled, and glows orange when off or disabled. Some newer models use different a different color scheme. To turn on and enable the wireless device, do the following:
  1. To turn on the wireless device, simply move the switch to the on position. On some computers, the switch is actually a touch point on the panel above the keyboard.
  2. To enable the wireless device, right-click the HP Wireless Assistant (disabled) icon c02228164.gif and select Open Wireless Assistant . Click Turn On . The HP Wireless Assistant (enabled) icon c02228163.gif will display.

Wireless button, won't come on. Stays the orange color.

This could be caused by one of the following issues:

WLAN is disabled in the BIOS. Check BIOS that WLAN is enabled. Update to the latest BIOS if not already:

Wlan stopped working on hp pavilion. It is no longer in the device manager and the wireless assistant will not open at all.

This would normally mean that your wireless card has been turned off or uninstalled, since you did not uninstall it, it was turned off from the external button or switch, check around the outside of the laptop, and the top part above the keyboard for it.

HP Pavillion wireless won't work

First, look thru HP Health check and download all recommended.
Second, go to HP site, download and reinstall WLAN driver and HP Wireless assistant software
Third, download at the same site HP WinFlash BIOS Update and update BIOS (READ and FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS VERY CAREFULLY)

Reboot.
If you are lucky ;-)  WLAN will now works - try to switch it on by WLAN switch.

Wifi will not come on

You can turn the wireless on from the control panel. In control panel you will find HP wireless assistant with which you can turn on the wireless. However, the issue could be with the wireless driver or quick launch buttons.I will provide you the drivers for the notebook zv6000. Download and install them on the notebook. HP Quick Launch Buttons

Broadcom WLAN Network Adapters Driver

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp30001-30500/SP30379.exe

HP Wireless Assistant

Try the above drivers and the wireless will start working normally.

Wlan disabled

If you have vista click the start button and in the start search type "hp wireless assistant". It should show up in your list while you type it. Click on it. Once the assistant box shows up, click on "properties". A "settings" box should show up. The main one you need here is "independant controls for installed wireless device". Check that box. The other ones are icons and indicators that you can check at your discretion. If in doubt, check them all. Hit the "apply" button. Then in the upper right hand side of the box hit the button that says "turn on". This should activate the device and if you have a light up indicator on your computer, it should change color or light up. That should do it. Kind of weird how it gets to that point.
