When I turn on my tv from a cold start I only get a picture on the right side of the screen. The left side has only multi colored vertical lines. After warm-up< (aproximately 30 Min.) I get a normal screen. After about an hour the left half goes out again.
I had this problem on a 37" Viewsonic LCD. Pulled it apart and through a process of elimination, I traced the problem back to a small board with several flat white ribbon cables coming out of it. The board was near the top center of the screen and under a ton of other equipment requiring almost a total disassembly.
This small board was clean but I noticed one of the rubber standoffs had slipped down and was making contact with one of the outputs running to the LCD. It also happened to be the output running to the section of the screen with the problem.
I postulated that the sticky glue on the rubber standoff may have just enough conductivity to cause a problem. Moved it so that it was no longer touching anything electrical and then reassembled the TV.
Afterwards, I turned it on and was pleased to see the problem has gone away! If you're having the vertical line problem, then maybe this could be your problem too, especially if you have a Viewsonic since it could be a manufacturing defect.
I had a similar issue. Took it in and apparently i had 4 bad capacitors and after replacing those, my tv was perfect. But I think I lucked out on this one. :) try it.

vertical lines down television but can see picture in the back ground
The left side has multi coled lines and the right side is perfectly normal.
The screen was fine and then all of a sudden exactly half of the screen(left side) got these multi-colored lines but the right side of the screen stayed perfectly normal. I didn't do anything to the tv it just happened randomly. What should i do?
I'm having the exact same problem described in the prior post with my Samsung 42 inch LCD HD. I've only had it for about a year and the left side of the screen has suddenly began to show horizontal vertical colored lines. The other side shows up perfectly. Would appreciate any help with this.
My TV just started experiencing a similar problem. When started after several hours - in a room that is cool (NOT cold) - I have some vertical lines in the center of the screen at the top of the picture. They are thin lines and the picture is fine otherwise. After some time with the TV on the lines gradually decrease and almost completely disappear. Then after another start after several hours it appears to be doing it again.
Same thing. Tons of vertical lines, but just 12 days old. I bought a Sony Bravia XBR 46".
I have Sharp Aquos 32 LCD same issue. Left side get horizontal lines with black 3" vertical line up the middle, and perfect screen on Right. Sound Fine. TV 14 months old. This is the second replacement for different problem, same TV.

mine is a 56in L.G. but same problem. Is there a chip i can get to fix it
