Brother CS6000i feed dogs issue :(.

The feed dogs on my Brother CS6000i won't stay up, yes I have checked to make sure the switch in the back was in the right position. This happened after a session of free motion quilting, I raised the feed dogs, heard a pop and they dropped. I was told by a repair shop it was an electrical problem, doesn't seem plausible to me.

Be careful as some sewing machine shops would love to sell you another machine rather than repair the one you have. It could be something as simple as a pin that has fallen out of the mechanism.

Sounds like something may have broke or come loose,, I'd take the machine to someone else to have it checked to see what the poping sound was

Thanks Debbi, but I've already sunk $69.00 into this machine just for them to look at it and it's only a $150.00 machine. I think it'd be more worth my while to get a repair manual and tackle all my machine issues myself :)

SOURCE: Free motion quilting

Refer to the accessories and you will find one is a darning plate. If you check the section for darning, there will be more information.

Look on the throat plate and there should be a tiny hole on each side of the feed dogs, this is where the plate snaps into place.

If you do not have the plate, set the stitch length to zero, and then tape an index card over the feed dogs with a hole punched out for the needle.

You may use this method forever, or check with your local Brother dealer for the accessory.

I dropped the feed dogs and they won't come back up.

Ignore all the other comments, they are wrong.
The feed dogs are driven by the feed driver mechanism, turn the hand-wheel forward and the feed dogs will come up. (Providing you have the feed dog switch to the up position).

Brother cs6000i

if your saying the fabric is not moving thru the machine when you put it under the presser foot,, then the feed dogs are either not in the up position or there is something wrong with them & they need to be checked

I cleaned my machine, but after putting the plate back on, the feed dogs don't pull the fabric through now.

check the feed dogs to see if their up, you can see & feel them with your finger under the needle plate.
if the feed dogs are not up then somewhere in the cleaning the knob or lever got moved, go back thru what you did to find the feed dog knob,,it's always good to know where it at

Feed dogs won't raise when I switch the switch in back. How can I take off the back to see what's wrong?

Befoe you try to take it apart, the machine needs to make one or two revolutions before the feed will come up. try that and see if it works.
