Hi,

You can simply right click on the Audio icon on the lower right side of the screen or on the task bar and go to your Audio Properties where you can disable audio devices such as the headset, or microphone or simply input/output audio devices.

My sound card isn't working and I have installed drivers now with speakers hooked up it tells me they are unplugged

Test sound via headphones to isolate problem. The green input is for speakers. Some cards will also allow you to change input / output, but this is dependent on their software.

Where can i find the sound on my laptop,i can't hear nothing on my lap top

Most generally, audio problems on laptops are not hardware issues to begin with, but problems with the software that controls the audio components.
Check the ObviousBefore delving into repair solutions, there is the possibility you can't hear audio from your laptop due to basic settings that have been changed. Check the volume level. If your laptop has physical buttons to control audio, make sure the mute button is off and the volume is turned up. Check the volume control on your operating system to make sure the slider corresponds to your button settings. Physical buttons on your laptop may stop working for a number of reasons, so be sure to confirm your software audio settings using the audio controls found in your operating system. Also, make sure nothing is plugged into the headphone jack. Headphones or any other audio device plugged into the headphone jack will mute your laptop speakers.
Reinstall the DriverA driver is a program that controls the hardware of your computer. Rule out file corruption of the audio device driver on your laptop by reinstalling the driver. This can be accomplished by locating the device in your operating system control panel and uninstalling the driver. When you reboot your computer, the operating system will search for available drivers for your audio device and install them.
Upgrade the DriverHardware manufacturers for devices on your computer frequently update drivers to resolve issues discovered after the original drivers were released. These updates could contain fixes to the very problem you have encountered that prevents the audio device from working properly. Just as you located your audio device to re-install the driver, use the device manager in your operating system to identify the specific sound device used by your laptop. Go to that manufacturer's website and locate the latest driver for this device. Download the most recent driver release and install it on your computer.
Check the Headphone JackThe most common point of failure in laptop audio hardware is the jack that connects your headphones or external speakers to your laptop. When this jack fails, it could mute the sound to your internal speakers as well, but more commonly it affects only the audio heard when you try to plug in your headphones. If you suspect the headphone jack is the problem, you should take your laptop to an authorized repair center for service. Depending on your model, you may have to replace a single inexpensive component or your entire computer main circuit board to remedy the problem. I dont have sound in my pc.i dont know where to fix my problem

If you sue external speakers or headphones, follow these instructions. If you have a notebook computer & are using the onboard speakers, skip to the *Windows section below.

You can start by checking your speakers, if any. Make sure they are powered on and functional. You may also want to test there speakers on a different computer just to make sure.

If the speakers work on a different computer but YOURS still does not have sound, try a known-working set of headphones. Make sure the jack is seated correctly as it may be loose.

*Windows:
Check the volume controls on in Windows. If windows does not have any volume controls, then chances are, the sound drivers are not installed. Check your computer manual to find out what model it is, then visit the manufacturer's website to download the appropriate drivers and software for the sound card.

Note that if you have used external speakers or headphones anytime before this issue started, you may have to re-plug the device & unplug it again & allow Windows to detect that it's unplugged (for HD-capable audio devices in Windows Vista or 7).

If you do have HD audio in Windows Vista or 7, right-click on the volume control in the notification tray on the bottom-right corner of your screen and select "Playback devices"...

... then make sure you choose the appropriate output device (whatever it is that you actually use: Speakers, headphones, HDTV output, etc).

HI I HAVE A DELL VOSTRO A860 AND I JUST INSTALLED WINDOWS 7 EVERYTHING IS WORKING FINE EXCEPT THE SOUND IVE DOWNLOADED VISTA DRIVERS REALTEK AND CONEXTEANT DRIVERS BUT I CANT SEEM TO GET THE SOUND TO WORK...

If you hear the sound on the headphones then the drivers installed correctly and the defect is either hardware - the jack for the headphones is stuck so the internal speakers are no longer activated when you unplug the headphones = the jack will have to be replaced by a shop - or software - you will have to go into the Realtek HD Control Panel and configure the audio outputs correctly = enable or unmute the internal speakers.
The Panel icon can be found in the notification area or in Start > Control Panel.
