Whirlpool Cabrio 7.0 Cu. Ft. Super Capacity Plus Electric Dryer Logo
Anonymous Posted on Mar 09, 2012

My Whirlpool Cabrio Dryer says it is sensing, but it won't start. Took everything apart and cleaned it, but nothing helps.

Is there a part that needs to be replaced? Where can I get it and how do I test it?

Is this something I can replace. The dryer is only 13 months old. Sounds like a defect in the manufacturing to me, there are way too many of these complaints on this site.

The main board almost never goes out. If it lights up its probably good. first get a multimeter and check the thermal fuse (its a white oblong plastic piece with 2 wires) for connectivity. if its good, go to the thermal cutoff ( thats attached to the heater housing all way up. 2wires on it as well) Test the same way.

I’d check door switch and thermal fuse before replacing board.

The main electronic board has a fault and needs to be replaced.

  • Owen Barnes Mar 09, 2012

The factory warranty on the machines is one year, your best option is to contact the store you got it from and basically make a big deal of it, they have the discretion to get it repaired outside the factory warranty period but sometimes they basically say they don't care.
These boards are no longer made to be repaired, they are made to be swapped out.

you need to look for the error codes chart and find out what is causing the error, it may not be the control board.

SOURCE: Another Whirlpool Cabrio Sensing issue

Hi-- none of the solutions I've read here are working. Same problem, dryer not starting, it says "Sensing..." and then "Wet" and does nothing. It worked fine on the last load, except I noticed it read 11 minutes for a very, very long time (I think it got stuck). New load? "Sensing..." etc.

Dryer sometimes works and sometimes doesn't, what's the problem?

i have a feeling that it's a fault in the power chord, take it out and double check. it would make sense if it only work now and then after you have plugged it back in because it could have made the wires touch again to make it work

I have a whirlpool cabrio wed6400sw1 i press the start button it said sensing it dont do nothing else

To take this unit apart is not easy for the user to do. It could be open thermostat, heater, motor, lid switch or control board or check your breaker as well. It is best to hire a technician.

Whirlpool Cabrio dryer won't start - the sensing light stays on

An EXTREMELY helpful technical guide is folded inside the console housing.
WARNING: It is for appliance techs, DO NOT do the voltage/resistance checks if you are not well-versed in troubleshooting appliances! BUT, it does include putting the dryer in diagnostics mode and checking the sensors.
Post back any error codes you may get.

My Whirlpool Dryer GEW9868KQS has power, but won't start when the button is depressed. The sensing light comes on, but the dryer doesn't start. Any ideas?

It's probably either the start switch or door switch. Try bypassing the switch and see if it starts. If it does, you can either replace the switch or try taking it apart and fixing the switch yourself. (I had a switch that simply required a copper contact to be readjusted and its worked perfectly for several years)
