Westinghouse LCM-19W4

I have a Westinghouse 19" wide screen monitor model LCM 19W4 that I purchased in 2007. Several months ago it started shutting itself off. This has happened at least a few times. Pressing the power button would not turn it back on. I unplugged it and it would would work again without problem. I'm not sure if unplugging was what helped, or if it was allowing the monitor some time to cool down.
Tonight, it shut itself off again, but after unplugging, this time it would only stay on for a couple/few seconds. These things are only warranted for 1 year and the warranty expired not long ago. Does anybody know what the problem and solution is? I can use a soldering iron if need be.

I opened the monitor and found 2 capacitors that were visibly "bad". I ordered

220uF 25V High Temp Radial Capacitors 27 cents each, part# 020-1732 from Parts Express. Hopefully this will fix it.

UPDATE #2- Repair of bad caps was a success! Although soldering for beginners(me) was "tricky". I recommend novices practice and get advice prior to soldering.

I had the same problem with my two LCM-19W4 monitors. Both failed within two months of each other. Radio Shack stocks 220uF 35V capacitors that work fine for this. You have to pay $1.49 ea though.

My monitor Westinghouse Mod# LCM-19v5

Hello,

The most common thing that causes no power or a blinking power light and no picture is a failure of the power supply board. The board can be repaired and the monitor will be as good as new. To repair the board you just need to replace a few parts called capacitors. Here is a link to repair information on the Westinghouse LCM-19V5

I have a 17" LCD Monitor - LCM-17V8. When I turn

Hi, it seems to be an issue with your monitor's backlight not working properly. Just to be sure, try using a different monitor on the same exit of your VGA, if that works, my supposition is confirmed. In case your monitor is still under warranty, just send it to Westinghouse support center, otherwise I'm afraid you will have to buy a new one. Hope it helped, Franz

Can't find correct setting for westinghouse lcm22w2 monitor

I don't know if this actually will fix your problem, but all LCM 22w2's are plagued with the 'white screen of death' and eventual power shutoff, including garbage characters and faulty menu, video output, etc. Here's how I fixed it.

The Westinghouse LCM 22w2 has bad capacitors on the yellow power supplyboard. This is a common problem plaguing motherboards and LCDflatpanels that use capacitors from Taiwan. If you know how to solder,or know somebody that can, it's actually a pretty easy fix. Take outthe yellow circuit board on the inside, write down the specificationsfor each of the capacitors (the cylindrical things) go to theelectronics supply store and get the replacement capacitors. You can goover the voltage specification (not under), but keep the capacitancevalue matching. Replace one at a time. Go to www.badcaps.net foradvice, tutorials and training on doing this. *You really shouldreplace all the capacitors*, but the very large one next to the powerplug I did leave on the board because I couldn't find a match. To mydelight, the white screen of death went away and it was working as new!

I saved a ton of money fixing this, it's definitely worth learning how to solder to do this.

Audio and picture quit working on white westinghouse lcm-17v8

If you haven't figured it out yet through a web search, Westinghouse monitoris have problems with blown caps on the power supply board. If you are lucky the problem is minimal and won't require more than replacement of the caps. You won't know until/unless you open the case and inspect the power supply board.
