I have been using Google Chrome with great satisfaction -- particularly becos of it's great download speed, a great change form being a longtime user of Exporer. Anyway, about two days days ago I did a system restore to try to get rid of a bug (in another program) that had been annoying me for several days. That was successful, but when I tried to re-run Chrome I received and still receive a message: "Unable to find locale data files. Please reinstall." Anyone have any clues. Sincere gratitude and congrats on this site provider. I've not used it before and am hoping my question will be successfully answered. Thanks to anyone who can help. You need to perform a full manual uninstall of chrome. sounds like you know your way around a computer, you should go ahead and give this a shot (be sure to delete the folder on the last step)
most of chrome resides in a folder under your user account directory. getting rid of the bad install and then re installing the latest version of chrome from google should set you straight.
I had the same thing occur. I was using Chrome fine, an hour ago. I've been having an issue with the active window I'm typing in flashing then becoming inactive. I have to keep touching the window anywhere to make it active again. So I ran "System Restore". After running it, the problem seems to be fixed, but as soon as I tried to open Google Chrome, I also got the message: "Unable to find locale data files. Please reinstall." I don't want to reinstall because I had tons of favorites saved. Won't reinstalling erase all that? I right clicked the Chrome application file and tried running "Previous Versions", but nothing happens and I still got the message (quoted above) when I tried to open the program. Wondering if there are alternatives since the program worked right before I did the System Restore.

This problem occurs when you run your Antivirus but not check for Malware. You have to remove Malware and run TDSS Remover or (and) Malwarebytes.
For TDSS - LINK
For Malwarebytes - LINK2 (Run updates and scan)
I hope I helped you!

Sounds like you may have gotten a malware virus which causes your directories to be moved. When your directories are moved what happens is when Chrome tries to connect to the internet it is using the wrong directory which causes the webpage being unable to display. This happend with me aswell and re-installing didnt fix it.
Soltuions:
Restore the a previouse date that you know the computer worked.
Download and install Malwarebytes and run the free virus scan.
Test on another internet connection to make sure it isn't your internet provider's fault.
Recommendation:
Restore to a previouse date, and also run a malware scan to verify your computer is good to go, but for a quick fix run Malwarebytes.
Malwarebytes:

if you were able to use chrome regularly and all of a sudden this error message is coming means that your computer can be infected. You should be doing a manual virus check on your pc
I did that online with a technician and got the virus removed
