I have a GE Spacemaker microvave oven that was working perfectly for the past 4 years. When installed, we were told that the outlet did not work, so to get the microwave working, the cord was pulled out of the cupboard and hanging out into another outlet. This worked, but was an eyesore. Today I had a bright idea to try the original outlet out. It worked - for a few minutes. All of a sudden, my trash compactor (which I thought was dead due to old age) turned on and the microwave totally shut off and gave off an electrical smell. It won't turn back on again. Is it totally dead or can anything be done?

Perhaps the microwave's main supply fuse has blown.Open the cover & check it in the power supply section.Be careful & discharge the big capacitor first as there is very very high voltage present inside even after switching off.

sounds like possible magnatron or diode thats the case its not worth repairing. but if your handy then google model nuber and get the part be extreamly careful because of the power capacitor holds extream volts. turn off and allow to sit 15min before working on

No power checked outlet and power is on
HELLO.

This is the way out of the problem.

The outlet is on power,the power problem is from the microwave.

check on the back of the microvave to locate the fuse that control the supply of power to the microvave.

Change the fuse because it is unable to control power supply.

Then plug the microwave to the outlet.

No power to microwave JVM1790SK ...checked outlet and it is live
HELLO.

Since the outlet is live,the power problem is from the microwave.

check on the back of the microvave to locate the fuse that control the supply of power to the microvave.

Clock,lights and turntable work but does not heat
Open the microvave discharge the capcitors.If you don't know then stop here and call pro .
Open it First check physically the nothing is burnt.I everything seems okay then, check the resistance of the magnetron and also the fuse.PLEASE DON'T TRY IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO DISCHAGRE THE CAPACITORS.

When the microvave in plugged into outlet it makes a buzzing sound but works ok. When the door in opened the noise stops but starts back up when door is closed.
I just had the same problem with my ge spacemaker microwave model number JVM1490bd. I removed the grill on the top of the microwave with two screws on top. There is one screw that holds the front touch pad on, remove the screw and lift up to remove. The damper assembly is on the upper left, my door was sticking and didn't make the limit switch. I moved the door back and forth making the switch a couple times and that solved the problem.

Have you tested the electricl outlet to b e sure it is working? If so: Return it! The unit is defective and the megatron tube either got broken, wasn't installed, or something.

May be a shorted door switch or possible bare wire somewhere that is grounded which is rare. Would suggest using an experienced technician check it due to high voltage.
