Is there any reasonable fixes to the safety problems experienced with the Model 700 safety? I have a rifle that has experienced this problem and would prefer to fix the safety versus getting rid of the rifle.
You didn't exactly say what is happening, not engaging, disengaging, not working??/ Trigger too light,? I had a 700 with a stubborn safety, would not klik on at all, also had an hk 770, same thing, I never bothered to fix it, I just never used it. It was always ready to fire, or empty was the way I left it, had to rack the action to use it.

Model 61, 62a, the 61 is hammerless and the 62a has a hammer, the safety on the 62 is the hammer, the safety on the 61 is a cross bolt, sounds like it is gummed up, or busted, I would take out the trigger houseing and clean it up and check it out. If the cross bolt is stuck, something is blocking it, like the hammer at half c0ck, try pushing the trigger forward and see if it moves, whatever happens, I would still take it apart and clean it, don't screw it up, it is a very collectable rifle.

When I disengaged the safety the rifle discharged. My daughter was carrying it at the time so I naturally thought she must have inadvertantly placed her finger on the trigger. I took the rifle, chambered another round and placed the rifle on safe. When I disengaged the safety, the rifle went of again. Now understand, I am a 23 year retired active duty Air Force Security Policeman, I've taught hunter education for 18 years and have been around firearms all my life - this rifle went off on its own. Problem is that its my favorite rifle and I'd love to pass it down to one of my grandchildren but will not if I can't get some confidence in the safety.
OK, That's different. I would get a hold of remington in illion ny, and tell them, they will fix it for free, no problem. That could be dangerous.
