I did this and all the drivers installed but the "blue screen of death" popped up. It did go away after I presses a key on the keyboard. Does that mean that theres a virus or possibly the disk ic corrupt some how?

You should be able to use that Hard Drive in the Compaq. Once transferred, you might be have to download the drivers to make sure all your devices work. I would recomend that you format the drive and reinstall windows.

Blue Screens can be caused by  faulty memory, components running hot, power supply issues,  or even poorly written device drivers or hardware that is malfunctioning.  With windows XP, Im more leaning toward a device driver issue. A Blue Screen should have a message displayed stating an error code. Right down this error message as it might give you some info as to what the problem might stem from.

Turned computer on and monitor instantly goes to sleep, also cant turn off the computer using button.have to use switch on power supply

Try this, unplug everything from the other board except the main hard drive, power connections, and monitor. if it does not come up, remove ram cards, leaving one stick. try again, if it is still bad swap ram sticks. If after all of this it still does not work you have a bad motherboard or processor

My Compaq Presario F732NR Laptop w/Vista won't Boot.

You have done an excellent job of diagnosing a MotherBoard fault. This is undoubtably the problem. Have you removed all/any cards attached too, like say the WiFi?

COMPAQ PRESARIO S5200NX WON'T START - Press start button, led's light up for about 5 seconds - hard drive starts to spin, then led's go off and every thing shuts down. Power supply is ok (swapped power...

Hi:
Since you swapped the power supply already, and have disconnected the DVD, CD, and floppy, that leaves the hard drive and motherboard!

Look the motherboard over, and see if there are any capacitors that are bulging or leaking out on the tops.
Is the inside of the computer very dusty? Check and make sure when you power up the tower, that the cpu fan is spinning up.

Your CPU could be overheating, so removing the Heatsink fan and re applying thermal paste is an option too
If it is, try resetting the CMOS on the motherboard, or pulling the CMOS battery for a minite.
Do you get anything to display on the screen?
If you have more than one stick of memory, take out one of the sticks if possibleif possible.

Hard Drive will not boot in Compaq Presario C700

BIOS checksum errors occurs when either the BIOS chjp is faulty or most likely the BIOS battery is nearly flat and the stored info changes and doesn't match the checksum info.
Replace the battery with a new one, leave the battery out for 1/2 hour before inserting the new battery. The BIOS will be reset to the default settings, you need to configure it again eg, datr and time etc.

Bad motherboard for Compaq S3200NX

Sorry to say but Compaq/HP uses proprietary motherboards which means without doing modifications to your case you will have to buy a board specific for your system from Compaq. Hope this helps.

Hard drive failure compaq presario 2200

If the bios is showing no ide, means that your ide hard drive is not being detected.
This can be caused by some motherboard failure, some bad cable connection or caddie connection or bad hard drive.
