Take out a internal report and check if it also has the same problem. If yes then u have to check the optics for any obstruction or foreign matter.have u changed ur toner recently ,if yes then it could also be a problem if it is not genuine .How much has ur drum yielded.check that also.

I suspect the drum unit might done its time.On this model you might find you can do 50000 to 90000 copies on your drum before it is done.First replace the drum.If problem sill presist the fixing unit can be the cause of the lines.

SOURCE: The screen says the Paten glass needs to be

use isopropyl alcohol on a cloth and clean the thin strip of glass on the left side under the document feeder, if there is ink, white out or paper dust it will show up on the copies as a black line across the page. (display dirty adf message) turned to off will stop the message from coming up on the screen, like 2son said it is under additional functions.

Why do I get a thick black line down side of page when copying, but not when I print

Not sure, but one possibility is that your paper you are copying is not all the way to the edge of the copier. If there is a crack along the edge where light from the room can get in it will show up black in those areas. You will see the same effect if you leave the top of the copier off and try to copy something. There could also be something wrong with the scanner arm preventing it from moving all the way to the edge of the window.

Broad dark line on right edge of copied papers

If you have the black line on copies and scans but printing from P.C is fine, then your scanner is broken.

Contact your printer manufacturer for a replacement or repair.

Cutting off the bottom 1/2 inch of 8-1/2 x 11 inch paper.

Notice where the metal retainer beneath the glass cuts off the view of your document you wish to copy
and make allowances on your copy. Most printers disallow some portion of the edges of any document
for handling the transport of the document through the feeder, or in the cases of contact copiers, a portion
of the sheet as you have experienced, so that the edges need not be so carefully adjusted to avoid the dark
line in edge copied formats.

Format all documents so that you do not need to copy the portion excluded.

Sometimes this can be accomplished by reducing the size of the document.

Paper jam at fixing unit when copying page with black border and complete tx fax function the tx report will comes out

Does the black go all the way to the very edge.ALL copiers have a void area around the edges of the copy....to prevent the copy from sticking to the fuser roller, which operates at nearly 400 degrees while copying. The void area can be as much as 6 mm all the way around, that is to say, all 4 edges.without the void area, the copy will always jam at the fuser or fixing unit.Good Luck
