Sounds like it could be a problem with high voltage stages. Definitely a job for a TV technician as it is dangerous try to repair it yourself.

GE D52GW12 TV TURNED ON WORKED GOOD FOR 3 MIN THEN SHUT OFF . WENT TO TURN IT ON AGAIN AND GREEN POWER LIGHT BLINKED AND HERD A POP OR CRACK NOISE ..NOW DONT TURN ON . SEE 1 OF THE TUBES FLASH IN FRONT 1...

The CRT on the left will need to be replaced. You can test it by removing the CRT drive board from the bottom of that tube and leaving it suspended without unplugging any wires. try plugging it back in and pressing power. If it powers up with that drive board hanging off the bottom of that tube then you know thats the issue and the CRT ( tube) will need replacement. You can get the replacement CRTs ( tubes) from www.tvrepairworld.com

On my 5 year old GE Rear Projection TV, there was a pop, and then a sizzle and then it shut off. Now every time I try to turn it on there is a sizzle in the back and it shuts off after a few seconds. There...

The problem is with the voltage capacitors and transformers on power circuit board. Some of them has burnt off and so only you are having this smell and popping sound. You have to take voltage readings and test power supply components such as bridge rectifiers and capacitors. If there is no voltage rating you need to replace that part if not you have to check the soldering joints and solder it again.
