not likely the electrostatic air cleaners are discontinued for the most part because the really didnt do all they claimed. you can achieve much better air quality from a standard media air filter with a merv rating of 10 or better.

Ammonia is a very strong agent & reacts with certain metallic compounds. No wonder the cleaning cell turned black. Educated guess, is you've ruined it. Cleaning in vinegar & hot water alone shouldn't have affected it like this. I would presume vinegar & ammonia mixed together would make a severe chemical reaction quite possibly harmful to you. I'm surprised you were able to put these 2 things together.
