I am a TV tech and have had experience with this type of problem on many sets...So Far the only trouble is the 2 output ic's stk392-110 which should be replaced with the upgrade stk392-180..All three Color Amps are within these ic's for both horizontal and vertical convergence. Sometimes a resistor or two will burn out as well because of the short in these ic's. Be sure to be extrremely careful unsoldering and soldering and use good heat sink compound and fasten securely to the heatsink metal. Manual convergence calibration may be necessary after the ic's are replaced. First try Touch Focus after the ic's have been Properly replaced. This repair should be done by competent personnel and takes about 3 hours because of dis-assembly and re-assembly time. I am writing this because i have seen on this site mis-leading info. i come to these sites myself to verify part numbers and to see if there have been additional complications such as complete shut-down.
I just replaced both of my ic's but the problem is still there the same as before what now?
the 1 watt resistors have to be checked to see if they are open or have changed value. then using your remote go to the convergence adjustment menu and see if you can line up the colors or press the magic focus button on the tv itself or somthing similar. The resistors I mentioned have a very low value usually around 2 to 3 ohms...If the resistors are the problem then yes even with new ic's the picture looks the same
Again usually when the ic's burn out internally they take a couple of resistors with them and they MUST be replaced with the exact value. These resistors are external to the ic and are nearby usually about 8 to 12 of them. Usually even though you replace both ic's Only one has burnt out and so each ic has a number of resistors connected to them and identical resistors are connected to each ic so if a resistor has burnt and you dont know the value, compare them to the ones connected to the ic that has not burnt out to determine the value. You MUST have an ohmmeter to do this. Again these are 1 watt resistors and larger than other components nearby. If the resistor burns out it usually has a white or grayish color it compared to nearby resistors that have not burned.
why may you ask that these resistors go bad? This is the answer: The ic shorts out internally due to heat. This then draws current...lots of it..thru these resistors I have mentioned earlier. The resistors then get very hot due to the current flowing thru them and so they burn out and open.....Simple

You may have a convergence problem. Here are some of the most common symptoms.
Here is a quick test....
Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.
Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.
You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.
If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.
You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick email and they will put one together for you. Their kits includes photo instruction guides, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.
Here are some photos of the two most common problems with the video.
Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )
Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problemScreen looks 3D
Colors don't line up
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed or warped.
Here is a quick test....

Solution #1
You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.
Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy
Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.
Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

Solution #2
What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

I had a problem with my TV colors not lining up. One day I turned it on and the green was out of wack. I checked this message board and replaced the STK chips, bad soldering and all led to me just giving up on that and buying a whole new Convergence Board ($185). I replaced the missing silver box on the new board and I just plugged this in and though now my Green lines up okay, my red is out of whack. Is there something I am doing wrong? Can anyone help me? Did i miss a step? Frustrated......Bruce
Had the same problem. Was ic's
Common problem with a lot of these Toshibas, TN61X81, 50HX70, 53H71, etc. The problem is bad eproms on the digital convergence board. They lose their memory and convergence goes out. You can enter the service menu and manually adjust all three colors back into linearity but chances are it will go out again. It can take upwards of 4-8 hours to manually adjust. Per Toshiba the digital convergence board part number 23706371 (PB6340B) is no longer available, although if you contact Toshiba they may direct you to the part somewhere else? Good luck.
There are no convergence adjustments for LCD based TVs. The optical engine may well be defective. You need to call for service.
The description of the symptom is a good one, that is what a set with a convergence problem looks like, the repair man might suggest you change all 3 colors amps ,then He will have to adjust it with the service manual.
Contact these guys on convergence issues, they are outstanding and they will walk you through the process ,,,they saved me thousands....

I have a samsung rear projection it was working fine then i turned it on one day and the colours where out of sink.on mine it was the green that seemed to be out at the top left to centre of screen.after 2 weeks of seeking some one to fix it with i decided to have a look my self.in the bottom panal there is a small board about 3"x2" with 4 conectors on it with 3 wires comming from each conecter.above each conector there r the letter r,g,b and neu.i disconected the green conecter(with power off),then powered up tv there was no picture on screen at this point but you could here the tv power up.i then turn off power and put connecter back on(there was a small spark as i reconnected it)i turned tv back on and picture was fine for an hour .i done the same again and so far so good the pic seems to be holding up fine.seems as if it was not earthing properly.hope this helps any 1 with similar problem.
This unit does not use convergence IC. More troubelshooting is required. The problem could be the AMP board, but could also be the small signal board where the settings are stored. If the technician is a reputable one, then he is probably correct on the amp board.
Convergence amp brings all the colors together. It could very well be that. Makes sense. Have him explain it to you and have him change it out. To converge is to bring something all together. You colors are not all together.
MAKE SURE YOU REMOVE ALL SPEAKERS AROUND YOUR TV!! THE MAGNETS IN YOUR SPEAKERS CAN CREATE SERIOUS PROBLEMS FOR YOUR TV. LOU
The best fixit I have found for these kind of problems when all else seems overwhelming is simply to just take out the old bat and beat the **** out of it. it didnt work anyway and you feel better about it.
Same problem with convergence. Solution: 1) Changed 2 STK392-110 and replace 1 resister 1.1 ohm 2W. 2) manual adjustment with romote controller. (in the main menu)
TV back to work this weekend!!!
No, its likly a COMMON "IC" short
What has happened to your tv:
What has normally happened is that the convergence output driver ic's either one or both of them has shorted. Causing your picture to be un-converged, The Symptom of your failure can take on many different looks, so one explanation of what the failure looks like will not be adequate. It will be basically one or more (red,Green,Blue) crt's are not aligned correctly, and colored shifted, and distorted picture of some kind will be seen. Auto focus will not fixit and may even make it worse. When these ic's short, they can cause one or more pico fuse to blow. Allot of people ignore this part of the repair and get themselves into trouble. Please listen to my warning, and make sure you check these fuses!

ICERUNNER OVER AND OUT.... GOOD LUCK!
WARNING! If you don't have any electronic experience this is not for you, I assume no liability for any harm that may come to you or your tv. Perform this procedure totally at your own risk. High Voltages exist in your tv and on the boards I am going to talk about, and can have high voltages on them even after the tv is unplugged. WHEN IN DOUBT, HIRE AN EXPERT!!!
(taken from the link)
The Parts:
The parts you will need are two ic's that are referred to as STK ic's. This is in reference to the first three letters of the part number. You will also need some pico fuses. The pico fuses are little yellow fuses that look like resistors. When they blow, they will show no physical sign of failure. The amperage rating will be printed on the fuse. For example a 5 amp fuse will have the number 5000 on it. A 3.15 amp fuse will have the number 3150 on it. You will need to use an ohm meter to test these fuses.
If your set uses either STK392-110, or STK392-120, you should replace them with a higher wattage part; either the STK392-150 or STK392-180. Since this is a very prolific problem, there are allot of companies that make cheap bad ic's that can be purchased usually for around $6.00 - These replacement ic's are BAD, they will FAIL on you again. I have had allot of experience with this problem, please listen to my warning! Only get a set that is from a reputable manufacturer. If your ic part number is something other than the ones I mentioned above, ONLY use the EXACT same part number for replacement. The part number is boldly printed on the part.
The Location of the parts;
The stk ic's are on the "D" board, attached to large heat sinks, When looking from the back you can see the heat sinks but the part's themselves will be pointing away from you and hard to see without removing the board, or using a mirror to look at the part numbers. The fuses are generally located under the fins of the heat sinks. There are several of them and vary by model. On the "G" board there will be two yellow pico fuses near the connector going to "D" board. These fuses provide power to the stk ic's you must check these as well.
The Repair:
When replacing the STKs make sure you use heat sink compound on the back of the ic's before installing them. Also as a rule of thumb, screw or clamp the ic's down to their heat sinks before you solder the pins. Replace any blown pico fuses and re- install your boards. When you turn your set on it may still be out of convergence due to many factors. Try pressing the auto focus button on front of your set. If this does not work, you will need to do a convergence. Please see my article "Sony Convergence Procedure" to complete this part.
Possible Problems after the repair;
Many things can happen during your repair, the most common problem and one that even I - an experienced tech still have problems with are not plugging in all the wires. This will cause various strange problems. So if the set acts differently than It did before. First suspect that you have missed a wire. Don't assume that you got all the wires in. it is extremely easy to miss one. I have had people and techs tell me "I am sure I plugged in all the wires" but when I investigate a little further we find that wire that was hidden behind something else and once we plug it, all will be well. Another issue you need to be aware of is if you are in convergence mode and you cannot move one of the colors in either vertical or horizontal directions. Re-check you pico fuses and solder. 99% of these problems are due to either shorted pins or a missed pico fuse.

Try www.ptscorp.com . they can rebuild the board. its around $100. i think there are 4 screws in your front cover, just give it another look. the convergence board is in the front, it has 2 stk392-110 chips on it. i hope this helps.
DLP or LCD Projection TV's (E44W46LCD) typically don't have convergence amps. Those are used in RPTV's which use three different CRT's. They "line up" or converge the three different pictures to project at the same spot on the front screen. Sounds like either Digital Board, Color Wheel, or Light Engine.
Have you also tried checking the convergence Memory? Often Bad/Corrupted memory IC is the Culprit.
Remove front speaker grill. Remove panel held on by a few screwsand u will see 6 knobs that control the voltage to each of the 3 primary powers labled r g b . asecond set that controls the focous 4 each of the colors, dont mess w these. turn down the red green or blue by spinnining it to the left. a little goes a long way
SOURCE: convergence problem???
Check the resistors by the STK ic's, should be 2.2 ohms. Under the heat sink, also check the 1.8 Ohm 1W, fusible resistors found around the area as well.
Good Luck.
SOURCE: convergence problem???
there is a way of lining the colours up in the service menu. to get into the service menu pres the "mute" button and then hold down the "mute" and "menu" button and the same time. this has to be done quickly. you then navigate to a screen which will have black square's on it. you will see the colurs that need to be lined up. it the colours wont line up. you will have to replace the convergience IC's. hope this helps you

Don't know if this directly relevant, but mind has faint wavy horizontal lines from top to bottom. Worse when first turned on, but improves - but never to complete clarity. Auto Focus shows the horizontal bars nice and straight, but the vertical bars are wavy. Thought it had to be my cable provider, but now I don't think so.
Hard to take character with heads and multiple chins seriously when watching it>
Any ideas?
my tv has a yellow shadow to everything, and I cant get my front cover off, I have removed the 2 screws at the bottom but am not sure if there are clips keeping it on and I am afraid to pull to hard for fear I will break it.
repair man replaced the chips but still colors are separate and shifted to right side of the tv. He says there are codes to reprogram the tv thru the remote . I have contacted sony no help , sends you to a service repair center . I feel like i have been had
red covergence is bad. I tried to manual set but the t's will not line up properly . I have taken apart and cleaned mirror, screen and bulbs all look to be okay.. not sure exactly what else it could be
When the TV is first turned on, the picture is fine. Then the convergence shifts as if you're watching it a 3-D picture without the 3-D glasses. It stays like this for 5 to 15 minutes, then corrects itself and it stays normal until I shut it off. Happens every time I turn the TV on.
where is a convengence board?
I have a Toshiba 42h82 with convergence problems. The red is messed up. I have replaced the twoSTKs. Still have the same problem. It will not adjust in convergence mode. The horizontal lines are bent at the top and the bottom of the screeen.
toshiba issue is this convergence see attached photos?
thanks
Picture is double and has lines bowed at the bottom
mi tv presenta una raya negra vertical en el lado izquierdo y se reduce el ancho de la pantalla
Picture is doubled and has purple bows on top and bottom. Green text is also bowed.
green lines
i also have a 42 inch projection screen tv by toshiba, i got the blue and green lined out but the red is still 1/4 in off how can i adjust the red bulb to line up properly
I have the same problem and was not willing to pay $200 to have someone come out and look at it. I called Mitsubishi and told me the picture tube was shot. There are three and they should all be replaced at the same time. They no longer make them, a repair service has to find a distributor. That's a minumum of $700.
No thanks. Ordered a new 56" DLP for $1200.
I dont have A toshiba , I have a hitachi... As i read and read and called several places to find prices i keep geting 200 sometimes even 250 or 300 ... Not worth it.. Seeing how some ppl are selling Rptv for around 200 bucks now a days might as well find a working tv and buy it if you wanna keep using a rptv... I figured i have nothing to else to do with it then either make it better or screw it up worse.. I unscrewed the front board and tinkered with the lil adjustment thingies on the board there is a diagram as to what adjuster does what on the screen ive since been able to line up the center of the tv to be perfect but everything else on the edges to the left and right , bottom and top are still off... Just get some 3d glasses lol Im still adjusting everynow and then its just time consumeing... I cant find a replacement board either everyone just wants to repair it instead of selling the actual part.
