27 inch Panasonic TAU tv won't turn on, then sparks when you unplug and replug it in

You press the power button, and the red light turns on then instantly off. I will then unplug the chord from the surge protector, or turn the surge off entirely. 10 seconds later, I will plug the chord back in or flip the surge back on. You can see a spark from outlet where the chord is plugged in. However, if you then press the power button, the tv will come on. The top few inches of the screen will have a distored see through look to it. After a few minutes, this will subside. When you turn the tv off, and try to put it back on, you have to repeat the above drill. Any suggestions? The tv is one year old.

I have a similar problem with a 27 inch Panasonic TAU, TV 3 yrs old, worked fine yesterday, won't turn-on today! Any ideas? Is there a reputable repair shop in West Los Angeles someone could refer me to?

It's probably the sc board. Mines been replace twice and just broke again this week. This time sparks turned to flames and was outside of tv casing about 3 inches

It's probably the sc board, mine has been replaced for same problem twice and it just broke again this week. Had a Panasonic tech here tonight and when he powered it on, sparks turned to flames and came out of back casing about 3 inches. Panasonic still won't do anything about it. Very poor customer service. Going to make all formal complaints tomorrow.

IM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. SEEMS TO ME THAT THERE ARE DEFECTIVE CAPACITORS ON THE VERTICAL CUIRCUT. THATS WHY WHEN YOU UNPLUG THE UNIT THEN REPLUG IT IT CAUSES A SPARK. YOUR JUST SIMPLY RECHARGING THE VERTICAL FILTER CAPS. WHICH YOU CAN SEE THEM GOING BAD BY THE HORIZONTAL WHITE STREEKS ACROSS THE SCREEN. REPLACE WITH A HIGHER VOLTAGE RESISTANCE BUT KEEP THE UF VALUE THE SAME......

You first need to rplace the outlet if it sparks where the surge protector is plugged in as it should not spark for any reason. then you need to make sure thast its not the outlet causing your problem by running an long extensition corn or moving the set to a differant outlet.

Right now the standby 5vdc is working but it may have gone into safety shutdown due to failed power supply or shorted circuits in the backlight inverter board. You need to troubleshoot it to narrow down the causes first before buying the wrong parts.

Tv wont turn on

take your tv to technician who can check your power supply, if your power is coming on and off, than a problem is not as big. firstly let him check a ht of a supply constantly, your supply is cutting.

No power but has red light flashing

Thank God for the internet. I had the same problem and I googled it and found this site with this solution. It worked fine. Thank you. Like you said, unplug, hold the power button for 60 seconds and replug and turn on. Worked like a charm. Thanks a bunch.
