Power Generator My generator is not producing electricity. I have 2 120V receptacle with no power. I checked the capacitor(a 100 microfarad) and the reading was 135microfarad. I also noted that the positive terminal of the capacitor was connected to the neutral(white wire) and the negative terminal to capacitor is connected to the Hot(black wire). Can this type connection be the problem. Capacitor is 100uF polarity 200VDC and connected to AC Voltage. Please advise.

You have a brushless generator and you've already checked the capacitor that does the voltage regulation (wiring is fine).
The next thing to look at are the diodes, movs, and wires in the rotor.

I have a 7500 w Black Max generator not producing power and it only has 6.2 hours on it.

This small amount is used to create an electromagnet. As the engine begins to turn this electromagnet, moving its electric field, through the stator windings, your generator will produce more power. However, if residual magnetism is lost, your generator will produce no power at startup.

No 110 voltage

Check the circuit breakers for a tripped one. If all OK, then the brushes may need to be replaced. Here's a tip on how to flash the field in the generator: This tip comes from the Briggs & Stratton Customer Education Department. As an alternative to flashing a rotor winding with a battery applied to the brushes, an electric drill may be used. Follow these steps to flash the generator:
  • Plug the electric drill into the generator receptacle. (Cordless drills do not work)
  • If the drill is reversible, move the direction switch to the forward position.
  • Start the generator
  • While depressing the trigger on the drill, spin the drill chuck in reverse direction. This will excite the field and the generator will now produce electricity. If spinning the chuck one direction does not work, try spinning the chuck in the other direction as you may have the reverse switch positioned backwards.
Use caution not to get your hand or other materials caught in the chuck. As soon as the field is excited, the generator will produce power and the drill will turn on.
The reason this works is because the electric motor in the drill will act as a small generator when spun backwards. The magnets in the drill's motor induce a voltage into the motor windings, which is fed back through the trigger, cord and into the generators receptacle. From there it goes into the power winding of the stator. The voltage going through the power winding creates a magnetic field, which is intensified due to the iron core of the stator laminations. The rotor intersects this magnetic field as it is spun past the power winding, thus inducing a voltage in the rotor winding. Once current flow is present in the rotor winding the rotor has been flashed.
If flashing the field does not make the generator work, you may have additional problems, besides a lack of magnetism in the rotor. Further testing will be needed. Hopefully, this will give a simple way to field flash your generator if needed

My portable generator runs great but only produces 7 volts and 20 volts on each 110 volt receptacle and 20 volts on the 220 volt receptacle. any ideas on troubleshooting steps to find the problem part?

Assuming the speed is correct check the voltage on the rotor brushes during running (Caution) It should be DC. If you have low or no DC voltage then the capacitor in the end of the generator housing is bad, or the AVR. If you do have voltage then make sure the slip rings are clean and shiny, from there you may have a rotor or stator issue that needs carefull resisitance check

Honda eu3000is generator surges

Inverter Generator Benefits
  • The EU3000 series generators are inverter generators. The generator features an alternator, which produced high-voltage, multi-phase AC power. This power is converted to DC power and then converted back to AC. This process is controlled by a microprocessor and is necessary to provide stable, consistent power capable of running equipment sensitive to power surges. This type of generator provides higher fuel efficiency and lower operational noise ratings in a lighter model than home and work generators produced by Honda.

EU3000i Handi Specifications
  • The Honda EU3000i Handi is a 3,000-watt inverter generator that features wheels, folding handle and a recessed convenience light. The engine is a Honda GX160, which features a 163-cc displacement. The AC output is 120 volts, with an average rating of 2,600 watts and a maximum production of 3,000 watts. There are three receptacles to include a 20A, 125-volt duplex and a 30A, 125-volt locking plug. The DC output is 12 volts and 100 watts. The EU3000i can hold 1.56 gallons of unleaded fuel, which will provide consumers with 3.6 hours of run time at 25 percent load for 7.7 hours.

No power output from my generac 5000 power plus.

sounds like you need to "flash the field". This means you've lost you excitation voltage for the generator to produce electricity. In most cases you need to get a 9volt battery and connect it to 2 & 6 inside the generator. They are Blue & Red wires, but they are not the only blue & red ones there. The generator should be running and the battery should only be connected for about 5 seconds. This is very dangerous because of all the high voltage and democrats.

Generator dose not produce power, just stop working.

Check the rectifier board installed under gen cover that powers the brushes. This board has a capacitor about 1 inch long and 3/4 inch dia. If the capacitor looks swollen or burned replace board or carefully remove cap and replace with similar. You can use a larger capacitor with same rating, just tie cap to rear cover. Also check the condition of the brushes. Parts are not too expensive. Check with jacksmallengines on the web for parts. enjoy

Generator runs producing no power

Hi, remove the electric control panel & check the wiring as sometimes we have seen the wires coming off the voltage change over switches.
Also some of these units you can check the connections in the rear of the alternator & if it has brushes that they are not stuck.
Another problem we have had is the trip switches have went faulty but still switch operates ok, they need to be checked with a probe type tester for conductivety.
